Urban-Intensification Expert JP Thornton Joins Kasian’s Toronto Office as Principal and Commercial Leader

Arch., as Principal and Commercial Leader in our Toronto office, effective May 24, 2016. In this role he will provide valuable insight and leadership to Kasian’s Commercial Market Sector in Toronto and across Ontario.

With over 25 years of experience spanning two continents, five countries, and numerous cities worldwide, JP has led the design of several million square feet of commercial developments, including one of the largest privately funded transit-orientated projects in North America. JP’s projects demonstrate his experience in encouraging people-friendly design to create innovative, community-based environments. He specializes in urban intensification, mixed-use communities and matching land use with mobility.

JP Holds a BA (honours) degree in Architecture from England’s Kent Institute of Art and Design (University of Kent) and a post graduate diploma in Architecture from South Bank University in London. Previously, he was the Director of Practice for VIA Architecture in Vancouver and was Principal and Sector Leader with Stantec in Toronto. As a public speaker, he has addressed Toronto’s Revitalizing Downtowns Summit (How to implement and Develop Attractive Communities for Growth), the City of Vancouver’s Eco Density Series (The Development of Parking), and the Planning Institute of B.C. annual general meeting (The Realities of Transit-Oriented Development). JP also sits on the Urban Design Advisory Panel of Mississauga, Canada’s sixth-largest municipality.
