Teknion Recognized As A Leader in Carbon Emissions Reduction

The company ranks among the top three in its industry in Canada, and the world’s top performers, in annual carbon disclosure report

Teknion Corporation today announced that it has been recognized as a leader in carbon emissions reduction in Canada. The company was honored for the quality of climate-change-related information that it discloses to investors and the global marketplace through CDP, the international not-for-profit that drives sustainable economies.

Each year, companies that participate in CDP’s climate change program are scored against two parallel assessment schemes: performance and disclosure. Teknion’s disclosure score is 98 (out of a possible 100) and its performance score B (with A being the highest).

The performance score assesses the level of action, as reported by the company, on climate change mitigation, adaptation and transparency. A high-performance score signals that a company is measuring, verifying and managing its carbon footprint. This can be done by setting and meeting carbon reduction targets and implementing programs to reduce emissions in both its direct operations and supply chain. The disclosure score assesses the completeness and quality of a company’s response.

“Teknion’s first line of defense in reducing carbon emissions is investing in technology that reduces them at the source,” said Scott Deugo, Teknion’s Chief Sales and Sustainability Officer. “We voluntarily set mandates for environmental initiatives as part of our business and corporate citizenship. Investing, improving and developing new technology to mitigate climate change not only reduces our carbon pollution, but also earns support from stakeholders, clients, architects, designers and CDP.”

Teknion was awarded a position on the Canada Climate Disclosure Leadership Index (CDLI), released in the Canadian edition of CDP’s annual global climate change report. The news came in conjunction with COP21, the recent UN climate change conference where national leaders met to agree on a global deal to reduce carbon emissions and limit temperature warming.

“As the world looks beyond the Paris climate change negotiations and prepares for a low carbon future, reliable information about how companies are responding to the transition will be ever more valuable. For this reason we congratulate those businesses that have achieved a position on CDP’s Climate Disclosure Leadership Index,” said Paul Dickinson, Executive Chairman and Co-Founder of CDP.

Thousands of companies submit annual climate disclosures to CDP. Teknion earned its position on the index by disclosing high-quality carbon emissions and energy data through CDP’s climate change program. The reported data has been independently assessed against CDP’s scoring methodology and marked out of 100. Those organizations graded within the top 10 percent constitute the CDLI. Top scores indicate a high level of transparency in the disclosure of climate change-related information.
