Gunlocke’s Savor™ Seating Named to Top 10 Green Building Product Ranking
BuildingGreen recognizes innovative guest seating with biobased MycoBoard™ technology as sustainable industry leader
Savor™, Gunlocke’s newest wood guest chair with a unique bio-material in its seat-back construction, has been named one of the Top 10 Green Building Products for 2016 by BuildingGreen, publisher of BuildingGreen.com and the stringent BuildingGreen Approved product guidance, as part of its 14th annual awards program.
Designed for Gunlocke by Alyssa Coletti of Nonfiction Creative, Savor is the first chair in the world to use a new biomaterial, MycoBoard™, in its construction. MycoBoard, used in Savor’s seat back, is a particleboard made from agricultural waste and mycelium (mushroom “roots’’). Mycelium acts as a natural, self-assembling resin, eliminating the need for chemical glues or resins the seat back board. This natural, compostable, bio-degradable material uses no formaldehyde and contains no VOCs.
MycoBoard has been certified under the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) bio-preferred program. MycoBoard materials are Cradle to Cradle® Gold Certified, the highest level of certification achieved to date by any product or material.
“At Gunlocke, we’re committed to pioneering new ways to create timeless, design-focused furniture that also contributes to a healthy, vibrant planet,” notes Roy Green, Gunlocke’s director of stewardship and sustainability. ““We are so honored to be recognized for Savor’s sustainable contributions by BuildingGreen.”
Savor’s finely tailored styling is at home in any office setting, alongside a variety of desking solutions. It’s complementary to other office furniture but still stands out in a room.
“While Savor’s design is based on a prototypical guest chair, it isn’t typical. Its elements have been shaped to unify the wood and upholstery into a continuous form,” Coletti says.
Its back-post design, which consists of a beveled, dually tapering form, effortlessly melds the wood elements with the upholstered back, acting as an aesthetic cornerstone that carries the surface design through all of the exposed-wood components. The upholstered, MycoBoard seat back transitions from a curved surface that cradles the user’s back into a forward-turning curve that sweeps under the seat.
Savor is available in ash or maple in any of Gunlocke’s standard wood finishes and upholstery options. An optional wood or upholstered top rail also is available.
As with all Gunlocke products, Savor is level® 2 certified. It also boasts SCS Indoor Advantage™ Gold certification and offers significant contributions to LEED credits.
Gunlocke introduced Savor to the contract design industry at NeoCon 2014. For more information about Savor or Gunlocke, contact 1-800-828-6300 or visit www.gunlocke.com.
