2017 IIDA Member of the Year Announced
The International Interior Design Association (IIDA) is proud to announce Alissa Wehmueller, IIDA, LEED AP, as the 2017 Member of the Year. This award honors an IIDA Member whose commitment to the industry is visibly demonstrated through extensive volunteer efforts and dedication to the IIDA mission of advancing interior design and advocating for its excellence. The IIDA Member of the Year receives $7,500, sponsored by Contract magazine, as well as a complimentary 2018 IIDA membership.
“With tireless commitment, Alissa is dedicated to creating a design community in Kansas City that is active, vibrant, and engaging,” said IIDA Executive Vice President and CEO Cheryl S. Durst, Hon. FIIDA, LEED AP. “Under her leadership, the Mid America Chapter has become a truly valuable resource for design professionals and is constantly striving for growth and improvement. We are proud to honor her hard work and passion by naming her the 2017 IIDA Member of the Year.”
Wehmueller, principal of interiors at Helix Architecture + Design, has served in various leadership roles within the IIDA Mid America Chapter, including president in 2013-2014, and has been instrumental in helping the Chapter win two IIDA Chapter of the Year awards in the last three years. Under her guidance, the Chapter has added mentoring opportunities, provided members with preparation for interior design licensing exams, and advocated for statewide registration of the Interior Design profession.
Wehmueller has worked tirelessly to unite the greater Kansas City design community. She co-chaired the Kansas City Design Week on behalf of IIDA from 2013-2015, transforming it into the region’s most anticipated week for sharing design ideas and inspiration. She also collaborated on the creation of the Kansas City Center for Architecture and Design, which brings together graphic designers, landscape designers, architects, and interior designers into one collective group.
Wehmueller will be presented with the award and celebrated at the IIDA Annual Meeting on Sunday, June 11, 2017, at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago. For more information about the IIDA Member of the Year Award, visit iida.org.
