NY11+ Reception: Diverse Panel to Discuss: “Paths to Professionalism” in Interior Design

NY11+, a leading platform for discussions and networking in the interior design industry, is proud to announce an upcoming panel discussion on “Paths to Professionalism.” The event will take place on April 25th from 6-8 pm at the PID Floors Showroom located at 37 West 20th Street, New York, NY 10011.

The panel will feature a diverse lineup of esteemed professionals from various sectors of the design industry:

– Alyssa Kita, Interior Design student at Villa Maria College

– Katherine Plunkett, Sales & Designer at Bernhardt Furniture

– Holly Chang, Consulting Manager at Cushman & Wakefield, & Designer

– Dani Arps, CEO and Designer at Artisan Alliance

– Eric Greppo, Executive Secretary of NY State Board for Interior Design

Moderating the discussion will be Dr. Ellen Fisher, VP for Academic Affairs & Dean of the New York School of Interior Design (NYSID). With a panel of this size, the format will facilitate a free-flowing conversation rather than direct questions per person. Dr. Fisher will guide the discussion by exploring the individual starting points of the panelists as designers and how their professional journeys have evolved over time.

The panelists will share insights into their educational backgrounds, early career experiences, and the types of projects they have worked on. Alyssa Kita will represent the student population, while Eric Greppo will provide perspectives on legislation and professionalism in the legal sense. Additionally, the discussion will touch upon the importance of Education, Experience, and Examination – the three “E”s of professional development in the field of interior design.

Benjamin Huntington, FASID, an Ambassador for the National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ), will be in attendance, adding further depth to the conversation.

The audience for this event will include design students, educators, and interior design professionals, providing a valuable opportunity for networking and learning.

NY11+ was founded by Ruth Lynford in 1997 as an exhibition of work from six New York metropolitan area interior design institutions. Under the auspices of the International Council for Caring Communities (ICCC), a non- governmental agency of the United Nations, students exhibited their work and met with delegates from all over the world, who took back to their native countries the students’ many innovative ideas in interior design.
