Trailblazing Women in Architecture and More Honored by the Beverly Willis Architecture Foundation

In recognition of women’s comprehensive excellence in architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC), the Beverly Willis Architecture Foundation will be honoring six exceptional women with its 2022 BEVY Leadership Awards.

Now in its 20th year of recognizing and promoting trailblazing women for their valuable contributions to the built environment, the 2022 event, themed ‘Breaking Ground,’ will celebrate each honoree during a festive gala on October 19 at New York City’s Bryant Park Grill.

Among the applauded honorees will be engineer Fiona Cousins, for her widespread impact as Chair of the Americas for the global engineering and design giant Arup, and architect Elaine Molinar, managing partner of Snøhetta’s U.S. practice, a 100-person interdisciplinary architecture, landscape, and interior design studio with a focus on well-being. Along with Cousins and Molinar, four other accomplished women in AEC will be standing in the spotlight for their significant impact in mentorship, innovation, media, and academics.

“Women’s influence isn’t limited to the architecture and design of buildings, but to all areas of the profession,” says Beverly Willis, FAIA, founder of BWAF. “They are passionate, skilled leaders devoted to creating spaces that improve the lives of people and business and deserve our highest recognition.”

Adding to the gala’s talented scope of leading women will be the dinner chairs for the event, Ebbie Wisecarver, senior vice president and global head of design at WeWork, and architect Jennifer L. Stone, partner at Robert A.M. Stern Architects who is known for leading the firm’s major campus projects.

In the coming weeks, each of the esteemed honorees will be named for her beneficial impact in a specialized area of the AEC industry: organizational excellence, innovation, mentorship, academic leadership, media engagement, and emerging leadership.

“These six women are making an impact in the AEC industry,” says Cynthia Phifer Kracauer, AIA, BWAF’s executive director. “Their commitment to exceptional design and architecture is building communities’ strength and vitality. They’re leading the way for women’s advancement in the industry. It is our honor to recognize them with our leadership awards during our gala event.”
