Tarkett Wins Two GOOD DESIGN Awards

Tatami System (L) and FlightPath & AirSpace (R)

Tatami System and FlightPath & AirSpace Are Honored

Tarkett, a worldwide leader of innovative and sustainable flooring and sports surface solutions, announces that Tatami System and FlightPath & AirSpace won the esteemed GOOD DESIGNŽ Award for their design excellence in 2019.

Tarkett has a history of designing and producing award-winning and innovative flooring solutions. Tatami System is a new category of floorcovering that upends conventional broadloom and gives designers and end users the autonomy to continually adjust spaces to align with their ever-changing needs. Designed by Jhane Barnes, FlightPath & AirSpace were first inspired by the lines and angles of intersecting flight paths on an air traffic map. This aesthetic inspiration quickly evolved into a beautifully functional flooring design—one that could simplify installation in contemporary architectural designs, where right angles and straight lines give way to open, multi-use spaces and curved walls.

GOOD DESIGN® is the world’s most prestigious, recognized, and oldest Design Awards program organized annually by The Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design in cooperation with the European Centre for Architecture, Art, Design and Urban Studies. The trademarked, historic awards program was founded in Chicago in 1950 by architects Eero Saarinen, Charles and Ray Eames and Edgar Kaufmann, Jr., and has continued for 70 years.

“Since 1950, Good Design has become an internationally acknowledged benchmark and symbol of outstanding design that serves as a beacon for design-interested audiences in our global economies,” states Christian Narkiewicz-Laine, Museum President, The Chicago Athenaeum.

This year, the Museum received a record number of submissions from the world’s leading manufacturers and industrial and graphic design firms representing the most important and critical mass of influential corporations in the design industry from over 47 countries.

In November/December, the 69th GOOD DESIGN jury met in Los Angeles and New York and selected over 900 product designs and graphics from over 47 nations worthy of the GOOD DESIGN Award for their Design Excellence.

Good Design is synonymous with the leading and best contemporary design produced around the world ranging from the ‘spoon to the city’ for sustainability, superior design, and unparalleled function. Winning products and graphics for 2019 can be viewed at the Museum’s websites at www.gooddesign.org.
