Stickbulb’s Boom Chandelier Receives Red Dot Design Award

Stickbulb has been awarded the prestigious Red Dot Design Award – the revered international distinction for outstanding design innovation – for its Boom chandelier. Recognized as one of the most influential awards programs for design, Boom was selected from over 6,300 products across 59 countries, winning a Red Dot in the Lighting and Lamps category for the Product Design discipline. The fixture was chosen by a jury comprised of 40 international design experts who evaluated based on innovation, functionality, quality, ergonomics, and durability. With its low-energy LED bulbs and strong focus on utilizing sustainably sourced wood, Boom displayed the sustainable yet innovative balance that jury was looking for.

Designed by RUX, a multidisciplinary design firm based in New York City, the series of LED chandeliers is made from and inspired by demolished buildings. The expressive design is achieved with minimal elements, featuring cast-brass joints and linear wooden bulbs to create forms of exploding light. At the center of the fixture is a singularity of cast-brass joints, elegantly curved to dramatically reflect the geometry of the fixture. Linear wooden bulbs – the essence of all Stickbulb designs – in varying lengths cantilever from the brass core, each one emitting a line of even light in a different direction.

“I want to congratulate the award winners sincerely on their wonderful success in the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2018. Success in the competition is proof of the good design quality of the products and once again shows that companies are on the right path. When I speak about good design, I am referring to more than just an attractive product. All of the products are characterised by outstanding functionality. This demonstrates that the designers have understood their clients and their needs,” said Professor Dr. Peter Zec, Founder and CEO of the Red Dot Award.

The winners will be celebrated at the Red Dot Gala on July 9, 2018, where over 1,200 international guests will congregate at the Aalto-Theater in Essen, Germany to formally receive their awards. Boom will also be on display at the Red Dot Design Museum Essen, the world’s largest exhibition of contemporary design that receives around 150,000 visitors per year.
