A Riveting Revolution has Begun for Camira

With two decades of experience manufacturing recycled fabrics, Camira’s latest release is a mesmerizing new fabric made from 100% post-consumer recycled polyester.

camira-rivet2Rivet blends the aesthetic qualities of luxury woolen apparel with modern performance sportswear, a marriage of surpassing style and sustainable strength for which the global textile innovator is widely known. The introduction of Rivet is made possible by the development of an entirely new yarnstring made from 100% REPREVE® fiber, created from recycled PET plastic bottles.

The fabric, available in 33 colorways, has a lightly textured hopsack construction which evokes the sheathe and sheen of sophisticated suiting in a well-heeled synthetic. Rivet features remarkable color detail and the whole palette is made from 13 yarns; through different combinations, mixing and coordinating, entirely new colors have been created to work together and coordinate with other ranges from Camira.

“Rivet is an example of connecting textile traditions with future innovation – finding new and sustainable ways to make fabric,” said Jodie Padgett, designer of the fabric. “Plastic bottles which would otherwise end up in landfill are used to make the yarn, and to make one yard of fabric takes just 20 plastic bottles.

The hopsack weave in the fabric allows for a textured pattern without compromising the overall color direction, Padgett continued, noting that “the colorways have been developed to coordinate beautifully with other ranges and offer a post-consumer fabric alternative to our customers.”

Rivet comes with a 10-year guarantee. For more information, visit www.camirafabrics.com/rivet.

 About Unifi Manufacturing

  • Unifi Manufacturing Inc., a leading global producer and processor of polyester and nylon textured yarns, developed a proprietary process to transform recycled plastic bottles into REPREVE® fiber, an eco-friendly fabric ingredient.
  • REPREVE® is made by transforming polyethylene terephthalate (PET) from recycled plastic bottle flake, which has the same chemistry as polyester. Over 4 billion recycled plastic bottles have been transformed into REPREVE® through a process that involves melting bottle flake into resin, then extruding it into fiber that is spun and textured to create a variety of yarns used in thousands of different fabrics and product available globally.
