Maharam: Introducing Sander Lak

Maharam’s new collaboration with fashion designer Sander Lak stemmed from a curiosity about how his unique color approach would translate to our wool collection. Through interdisciplinary exchange, our studio seeks collaborators from beyond the textile industry whose insights offer fresh perspective.

As former creative director of Sies Marjan and head of design at Dries Van Noten, Lak is known for his color experimentation and unusual references. Embodying Lak’s exuberant yet sensitive use of color, Terra, Gemma, and Gemma Multi’s combined palette of nearly 200 colors speaks to the breadth of expression possible with wool.

Gemma by Sander Lak

A uniform wool felt, Gemma is an ideal canvas for saturated color which Lak embraced through creamy piece-dyed iterations and a soft, pressed finish.

Gemma Multi by Sander Lak

Gemma Multi is a heathered, reversible felt whose unexpected duotones are drawn from Lak’s extensive library of color references.

Terra by Sander Lak

Woven in Italy, Terra is a chunky basket weave whose natural and synthetic hues draw from the ephemera of everyday life—including ceramics, confections, and digital icons.
