Stille: A Contemporary Collection of Everyday Furniture

Standard Issue Reimagines Danish Design Icon Poul Cadovius’s Abstracta System in Stille

Brooklyn-based design studio Standard Issue introduces Stille—a bright, modern collection of occasional tables and easy-to-assemble shelving units that provide a framework for showcasing one’s objects, while adding contemporary sophistication with its architectural lines.

Inspired by the functionality and timelessness of the Abstracta System, initially developed by mid-century Danish architect/industrialist Poul Cadovius, Standard Issue has adapted its signature joinery and slim lines with updated configurations, shelf design and leveling foot. The collection is comprised of five archetypes—bedside tables, side tables, coffee tables, media consoles and a range of multi-purpose shelving—all of which will be available for purchase directly through stille-life.com.

“Having built immersive installations using Abstracta for the world’s top design brands, we sensed there was a greater application for the system that hadn’t been tapped yet,” said Michael McGinn, Co-founder, Standard Issue. “Through our initial offering of 20 dynamic, solution-oriented forms, we’re aiming to make well-designed furniture more accessible to a wider audience.”

Stille is manufactured in Kalamazoo, Michigan by Consort Display Group—the owner of Abstracta—using the system’s signature steel tubes and cast zinc connectors. The collection’s clean geometric silhouettes lend it an airy, minimal feel, while a color palette that ranges from understated neutrals to bold and poppy hues allow Stille to complement any space. Well-suited for use in residential, commercial, hospitality and tradeshow settings alike, Stille arrives flat-packed and assembles quickly, requiring only a small rubber mallet included with each order.

Stille will be launched during NYCxDesign in May 2019, at ICFF Booth #469 (May 19–22, Jacob K. Javits Center in New York City,) and at Standard Issue’s studio in Gowanus, Brooklyn.
