Encore Seating Launches Sunny, a Collection Reminiscent of West Coast Culture
Encore has introduced Sunny, a versatile collection of seating and tables inspired by the lighthearted spirit of California. Designed by UK-based studio Rainlight, the series includes guest and lounge chairs, a settee, and accompanying occasional tables in various sizes tailored for corporate, healthcare, educational settings and more.
Drawing from a visit to the West Coast, designer Yorgo Lykouria infused the Sunny collection with subtle nods to surf culture and a reverence for nature, community, and simplicity in design. Each piece features a tapered wood frame joined by die-cast aluminum connectors, which are influenced by the concept of assembling found objects and natural materials on the beach to create something new. The lightweight, open design promotes flexibility, inviting users to rearrange seating or pull up a chair effortlessly.
“Great design is inherently centered around people, capturing emotions that foster human connection,” explains Lykouria. “When you design, you’re crafting an environment that mirrors nature— the Sunny collection aims to reintroduce the essence of nature indoors, encapsulating that ‘in the moment’ lifestyle, encouraging face-to-face interaction, and sparking joy.”
Seating models offer varying degrees of recline, yet all are designed to provide a relaxed, comfortable profile that fosters social interaction. Inspired by seaside gatherings, the settee encourages side-by-side seating, while tables feature oval and round tops with gently curved edges, evoking the fluidity of waves. Offering extensive customization possibilities, the ash wood frame and aluminum connectors come in a wide range of standard and custom finishes. Additionally, the tabletop can be specified in wood veneer, laminate, Fenix®, and solid surface options. Intended to seamlessly complement a variety of settings from casual to sophisticated, designers have the flexibility to mix and match materials, crafting either a warm, neutral aesthetic or infusing vibrant pops of color. This can be achieved through upholstery choices or by opting for aluminum connectors in a spectrum of bright or earthy tones such as Canary Yellow, Clay, Mint and Ice Blue.
