Encore Seating Expands Mayland Collection with Refined Wood Frame Options

Encore has expanded its highly acclaimed Mayland seating collection with the addition of wood frame options. Designed by the esteemed duo Andrew Gower and Paul Woolf Boettiger of Gower + Woolf, this extension further enhances the product series’ adaptability and appeal across a myriad of environments.

Building upon the success of the original metal frame guest and lounge seating collection, the addition of a wood frame brings a new dimension of sophistication and warmth to Mayland’s offering. Each piece in the product family embodies timeless elegance and contemporary flair, making it an ideal choice for diverse settings ranging from corporate offices and healthcare facilities to educational institutions and hospitality venues.

The exposed wood frame design follows the curve of the seat and back, offering an attractive aesthetic from every angle. Characterized by fluid curves and layered components as well as a tapered back and arms, the chairs also boast oversized plush cushions that invite users to sink into unparalleled comfort.

“The Mayland wood collection embodies a soft and inviting approach to lounge seating, directly responding to the evolving landscape of today’s hybrid work culture,” says Andrew Gower.

“Aesthetically we were interested in the interplay between the soft inner shell and outer wood framework. Particular attention was placed on the sculpting of the cushions and seam locations, emphasizing the design’s warm and welcoming appearance,” says Paul Woolf Boettiger.

Beyond aesthetics, Mayland offers versatility in application. While both guest and lounge models cater to similar markets such as higher education, healthcare, corporate, and hospitality, they serve distinct purposes. Lounge seating is ideal for longer stays and casual interactions, while guest seating excels in dining halls, waiting rooms, meeting spaces, or as ancillary seating when paired with larger modular pieces.

Further elevating Mayland’s design are thoughtful details such as tailored stitching, as well as an array of finishes that include Super Matte Sable, a soft off-black finish with a velvety texture and anti-fingerprint properties. With options for non-skid and VCT glides, it also adapts seamlessly to various flooring surfaces, ensuring stability and ease of movement.

Any way you look at it, and in whichever material you prefer, Mayland brings versatility far beyond its conventional role. And with design elements that span all models for seamless integration, the possibilities for creating stunning visual combinations are endless.
