Duravit is pleased to announce the winners of its fourth annual Designer Dream Bath Competition, recognizing the works of architects and designers who demonstrated a keen eye for bathroom design. The winner of the Unbuilt project category, Eduardo Lam of ASD | SKY (Atlanta, GA) will receive $10,000 in Duravit products to meet his design goals. In the Built project category, Bronwyn Breitner & Luigi Ciaccia of 590BC, LLC (Brooklyn, NY) were elected the winners and will receive $5,000 worth of Duravit product. Honorable Mentions were also selected in both categories: Wayne Turett of The Turett Collaborative (New York, NY) and Oliver Valle (Brooklyn, NY) in the Unbuilt category and Melinda O’Connor of Melinda Kelson O’Connor Designs (Philadelphia, PA) in the Built category.

The Unbuilt project category challenged designers by asking them to reimagine their own bathroom using a range of Duravit’s top collections and design solutions, including Darling New vanity with c-bonded technology, P3 Comforts, and ME by Starck. Participating designers used images and floor plans of their existing bathroom, along with renderings to convey how Duravit could improve each space.

Speaking on behalf of Eduardo Lam’s winning Unbuilt entry, Duravit USA President Tim Schroeder noted the project’s strengths, “Eduardo put to use technology-driven pieces, such as the DuraStyle two-piece toilet and the Stonetto shower tray, showcasing how Duravit’s numerous collections can work together to create a cohesive space.”

Lam’s design captures the master bathroom’s potential by streamlining high-use zones with the space-saving and ever elegant DuraStyle wall mounted vanity, which is complemented by two Foster washbowls. The incorporation of a mirror and light system, along with the rich chestnut finishes on vanities and DuraStyle bathtub, add a sophisticated edge to the space.

The Built category asked designers to share a recently completed project that highlighted Duravit. Designers Bronwyn Breitner and Luigi Ciaccia of 590BC impressed the jury with their renovation of a 1923 CO-OP that included the use of Duravit’s Starck 3 Toilet, Starck Bathtub and Vero Washbasin. The modern silhouettes of each unit assert an elegant contrast between the space’s traditional arrangement and Duravit’s innovative designs.

“590BC exemplified the versatile quality of Duravit products,” explained Schroeder. “In this project, we saw exactly how modern pieces could be used to enhance traditional design spaces.”

590BC designer Breitner elaborated on this note, “The sleek nature of the Duravit products we integrated into the space provided a crisp yet coordinating contrast to the bathroom’s more historical materials, matching the transitional identity of the rest of the apartment renovation.”

Honorable Mention winners of the Unbuilt category, Wayne Turett of The Turett Collaborative and Oliver Valle, proposed thought-provoking designs. Turett’s design, which played with the symbiotic relationship between living and washing spaces, incorporated the Cape Cod freestanding bathtub, as well as an L-Cube vanity. Valle’s design found L-Cube shelving units and the ME by Starck Washbasin to be the perfect match for his minimalistic material centric design. Melinda O’Connor of Melinda Kelson O’Connor Design, LLC transformed a narrow footprint with Duravit’s elegant Happy D.2 washbasin and Architect series bathtub, granting her design an Honorable Mention for the Built category.

This year’s prestigious judging panel included Michelle Brunner (Luxe), Parker Larson (Architectural Digest), Susan Szenasy (Metropolis), Vanessa Deleon (Vanessa Deleon Associates), and Abby Bullard (Stonehill Taylor).
