First time in the 15 year history that a website has been selected

Designtex is pleased to announce that its website has been selected by BuildingGreen as one of their Top 10 Green Building Products for 2017, in recognition of the website’s innovative search engine filters that allow clients to view products based on a range of sustainability criteria.

BuildingGreen’s Top 10 selections are typically product-specific, but in this case the honor acknowledges that the Designtex website provides specifiers with a powerful tool to understand the sustainability features of its products, enabling more informed choices concerning the environmental impact of materials.

Brent Ehrlich, Products and Materials Specialist at BuildingGreen, noted that this is the first time that a Top 10 award has been given to a website: “While sustainable textiles are available from many different sources, finding textiles that meet different aesthetic, performance, code, and job-specific sustainability initiatives can be daunting.” The Designtex website’s sophisticated filters make this process much easier, by allowing users to frame their search using a range of criteria that can impact a product’s sustainability: meeting third-party certifications or LEED requirements (rapidly renewable and recycled content), achieving sustainable logistics (carbon-neutral shipping), or offering optimized chemistry (such as avoiding phthalates, perfluorinated compounds, or harmful flame retardants).

Susan Lyons, President of Designtex, welcomed the announcement of the award: “Designtex has long been committed to developing more sustainable solutions for our industry, and to providing clients with greater transparency concerning the attributes of our products. We are pleased and honored to be recognized by BuildingGreen’s Top 10 award for our efforts in building a website which marries these two goals—by empowering clients to select materials whose contents and manufacturing processes have a low environmental impact.”
