Storied museum to feature seven Chilewich styles including Plexi Pockets

Recognizing Chilewich’s important contributions to the world of textiles, the Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum has accepted seven Chilewich styles, including Plexi Pockets, into its permanent collection. Each work is innovative and unique, featuring not only high-quality aesthetics but durability and stain-resistance. “People have often heard me say that making something beautiful is easy. Making something beautiful that is also durable and easy to clean is truly my passion,” says creative director and founder, Sandy Chilewich, about her work.

The Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum Collection highlights a curated selection of unique objects that span thirty centuries of historic and contemporary design. The Permanent Collection consists of more than 200,000 objects representing contemporary and historical design in four curatorial departments – Drawings, Prints, and Graphic Design; Product Design and Decorative Arts; Textiles; and Wallcoverings. Located in New York City, the Cooper Hewitt is one of nineteen museums that falls under the wing of the Smithsonian Institution and is the only museum in the United States devoted to historical and contemporary design.

Chilewich products chosen for the collection include Spun, Lattice, Tulle Tech, Pressed Dot, Brocade, Plaid runners, and the new material concept Plexi Pockets. Known for challenging the boundaries and expectations of textile design, these styles are a natural fit for the Cooper Hewitt’s collection and will be on permanent display.
