Concurrents – Environmental Psychology: Seizing the Moment

Kellen Browning has written another of those articles about working post-COVID (The New York Times, February 22, 2022, “Big Tech Makes a Big Bet: Offices Are Still the Future,” https://www.nytimes.com/2022/02/22/technology/big-tech-offices.html). A comment made in the last paragraph of Browning’s piece drives home the message that those of us in the workplace design and management world need to share “enlightening moments” with the users of the sites we develop and manage.  At the end of the article Sam Jones, described as “a co-founder of a nonfungible token start-up, Honey Haus,” who is renting space for 4 people at WeWork, is quoted as stating “’I am just way less productive at home. . . . People are definitely, I think, realizing that physical space just has something special to it.’” We need to seize our current opportunity to make it clear, to anyone we can get to listen, how and why design …
