The Architecture & Design Film Festival returns to Cinépolis Chelsea this fall for its tenth edition featuring a robust program of interactive experiences, pop up installations, panel discussions and much more. An additional day was added to the festival this year, resulting in extended events and screenings happening over the course of six days (October 16-21). A total of over 30 feature-length and short films including two world premieres, two U.S. premieres and three New York premieres that tell the stories of notable industry figures such as Leslie E Robertson, Dieter Rams, 2018 Pritzker Prize winning architect Balkrishna Doshi, Frank Gehry, and Renzo Piano and address timely topics such as the future of prison design and gaming technology being used to improve cities.
In addition to the curated selection of films, ADFF will present a series of intimate discussions with prominent architects, designers, industry leaders and filmmakers as well as entertainment across various floors of the Cinépolis Chelsea theater.

– Tuesday, October 16 (7:30 PM)
Opening Night Screening and Celebration
In celebration of the tenth season, the opening night screening of Leaning Out will take place at the SVA Theatre, followed by a reception at the Cinépolis Chelsea. Esteemed guests will include Leslie E Robertson and Sawteen See, among other notable industry figures.

Following the screening of Frey: Part 1 – The Architectural Envoy, Cathleen McGuigan, editor-in-chief of Architectural Record, will moderate a panel with director Jake Gorst, and others.
– Wednesday, October 17 (7:00 PM)
Following the screening of Mies On Scene. Barcelona in two acts, Bill Hanely, Digital Director and Executive Editor of Surface, will moderate a panel with Martino Stierli, The Philip Johnson Chief Curator from The Museum of Modern Art, and others.
– Thursday, October 18 (6:30 PM)
Following the screening of Enough White Tea Cups, Kelsey Keith, editor-in-chief at Curbed, moderate a panel discussion Joel Towers, Executive Dean at Parsons School of Design, and Louis Becker, Design Principal and Partner at Henning Larsen and representative of the Danish Consulate.
– Thursday, October 18 (7:15 PM)
Following the screening of Parallel Sprawl, June Williamson, Author and Associate Professor of Architecture at The Bernard and Anne Spitzer School of Architecture will engage in a discussion with Architect Guillaume de Morsier, and others.
– Friday, October 19 (6:30 PM)
Following the screening of Frank Gehry: Building Justice, Wendy Goodman, Design Editor at New York Magazine, will moderate a discussion with director Ultan Guifoyle, and Susan Burton, activist and CNN Hero Award recipient.
Along with film-centered discussions, ADFF will host numerous activities in the festival lounge to keep attendees entertained in between films. Guests are browse a pop-up bookstore by Rizzoli or can enjoy a drink at the festival bar. Short films from the AIA National Film Challenge, as part of Blueprint for Better Change, will be showing on loop using Sony’s VPL-VZ1000ES Ultra-Short Throw 4K Home Theater Projector in the barside lounge and Ceramics of Italy will be offering registered architects a chance to win an all expense paid, CEU trip to Bologna, Italy for Cersaie 2019. Vitra will display a series of vignettes from its International Roadshow and Suite New York will also showcase a selection of furniture pieces.
On the Mezzanine floor, Sony will also set-up a pop-up theatre for attendees to experience their in-home entertainment options, while enjoying a curated selection six unique films that are less than 20 minutes in length. These screening are free but ticketed and begin on the hour and ½ hour during festival hours.

Pricing is $17.00 for General Admission, $14.50 for AIA and ASID members (must inquire for discount code) and $12.50 for students with valid ID. New this year: a limited number of Opening Night tickets are available for $75. Additional festival ticket packages are also available online.
