Allsteel Adds New Workplace Advisory Manager to Team

Allsteel Inc., a leading office furniture manufacturer, has added Karen Laveen, a workplace strategist with a strong background in real estate optimization, to its workplace advisory team. She will provide guidance and research to both Allsteel and its clients in aligning business strategies and goals with the physical work environment. As Senior Workplace Advisory Manager, Laveen will report to Jan Johnson, Vice President of Design and Workplace Resources at Allsteel, who said, “Adding Karen to our team really ups our game. Over the course of her career, she has been both consultant and client, taking different roles across an extensive range of experiences. This breadth gives Karen invaluable insights and sensitivities to the challenges of aligning real estate portfolios with business strategies for optimal benefit.”

Prior to joining Allsteel, Laveen was Client Relationship Manager for the DeVry Education Group, where she advised senior leadership in several higher education divisions on real estate strategies to enable peak performance for students, faculty and staff. Most recently that work involved the disposition of property and leases in accordance with the sector’s performance and the evolving business environment.

Laveen also brings extensive experience in the architecture and design industries, having led the Chicago Advanced Strategy group at HOK, the global design, architecture, engineering and planning firm, and having been Regional Senior Strategic Planner/Director in the Chicago offices of Nelson & Associates, another major global design, architecture and engineering firm.

Laveen began her career with a focus on project management, honing her skills at Jones Lang LaSalle, the international commercial real estate services and investment management firm, where she worked with clients including Sun Microsystems, McDonald’s Corporation, Hewitt and Hospira from project inception through construction completion, to move in and beyond.

“My work history provides me with myriad vantage points from both the consultant and client perspectives,” Laveen said. “Given my real estate background, I hope to bring a different viewpoint to Allsteel’s workplace advisory team, one that enhances its goal of helping clients create a work environment that fosters brilliant, diverse and passionate people to connect and cultivate ideas that shape the future.”

Laveen received a BFA in Interior Architecture and Design & Business from Loyola University Chicago. She is a LEED Accredited Professional and an active CREW Network member who has served on their Programs Committee and is a two-time Leadership and Innovation Award recipient for a Fortune 500 firm.
