Tom Philippi Joins SmithGroupJJR as Design Principal at Dallas Office
Tom Philippi, AIA, LEED AP, has been hired as design principal at the Dallas office of SmithGroupJJR, one of the nationās largest architecture, engineering, interiors and planning firms. He joins SmithGroupJJR from Gensler, Dallas, where he served as design director for its Lifestyle Studio.
An award-winning designer with more than 30 years of experience, Philippi will focus on leading design and forging new, strategic business relationships for the officeās emerging Workplace Studio.Ā Additionally, he will collaborate with its Higher Education and HealthĀ Studios and work to identify new business opportunities for SmithGroupJJR in both the corporate and public sectors.

Philippiās professional background entails mixed-use, corporate, hospitality, retail, healthcare and master planning projects.Ā His diverse portfolio includes work across the United States as well as in China, Turkey, and the United Arab Emirates. Some of his most noteworthy projects are the Grand Hyatt Shenzhou Resort in Hainan, China; the Capitol District mixed-use development in downtown Omaha, Nebraska; and the Legacy West development in Plano, Texas.
Prior to Gensler, Philippi was vice president and director of design for the Leo A. Daly offices in Dallas and Omaha, and principal designer at RTKL, Dallas.
Philippi received a Bachelor of Architecture degree at the University of Cincinnati. He is a member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and a LEED accredited professional of the U.S. Green Building Council. He is an active member of the Dallas Business Council for the Arts and the Urban Land Instituteās North Texas Hotel Development Council.
He is a resident of Dallas, TX.
