First Wall-to-Wall Soft-Surface Floor Covering Awarded Designation

J+J Flooring Group, a leading manufacturer of commercial specified flooring, announced today that its Kinetex products received National Floor Safety Institute (NFSI) certification as a High-Traction Surface. As a credible third-party certifier, NFSI’s commitment to education, research and the development of standards reinforces J+J’s commitment to safety. A milestone for the Kinetex brand, having high-traction certified products enhances overall safety performance and is an added benefit to its portfolio of product attributes.

A comprehensive series of tests, the NFSI certification involves two phases and measures both static and dynamic coefficients of friction, under both dry and wet conditions. The first phase of testing is conducted on new flooring in a laboratory. Phase two testing is conducted immediately after an actual customer installation and again after 30 days, post-installation, to see if traffic and maintenance change the slip resistance.

“We have an obligation to our customers to understand the role flooring might play in preventing slip-and-fall accidents,” said Keith Gray, director of applied research, J+J Flooring Group. “Since its introduction in 2012, the Kinetex brand has firmly established itself as a unique high-performance product in the textile composite flooring category and this NFSI certification elevates the product to the next level.”

About NFSI Certification

A NFSI Certified Product is a product that has been submitted to the NFSI by the product manufacturer for testing according to the applicable ANSI/NFSI standard. When a product has met all minimum requirements to be identified as a “High-Traction” product, the NFSI grants the product as NFSI Certified “High-Traction.”

About Kinetex

All Kinetex products are constructed of knitted polyester fabric and cushioned polyester felt backing. The result is a soft textile aesthetic with the durability of hard surface flooring. Kinetex provides superior stain and crushing resistance through its ability to withstand more than 5 million foot traffics. It also provides better acoustics, comfort, cleanliness and slip-and-fall resistance than traditional hard surface flooring. Kinetex’s lifecycle cost of ownership (flooring materials, installation and maintenance over 7-10 years) is less than rubber, LVT and VCT flooring.

Named one of Environmental Building News’ Top 10 Green Building Products of 2014, Kinetex has 50 percent lower environmental impact than traditional hard or soft surface flooring. Kinetex products contain 55 percent recycled content, are fully closed-loop recyclable and are certified to NSF 140 Platinum. All Kinetex products meet the Carpet & Rug Institute’s Green Label Plus certification for low indoor air emissions and come with a third-party Environmental Product Declaration.
