OMChats: Movement at Work Webinar Dec. 4

OMChats presents Movement at Work – An Exploration of New Standards, Developments and Trends, in an hour-long webinar led by Mark E. Benden, PhD, CPE  of Texas A&M University. Co-produced by OM and ErgoExpo, this second session of OMChats: Design Discussions for Thinking Professionals will be held Wednesday, December 4 from 11:00 – 12 Pacific Time.

Dr. Benden explores the current landscape for encouraging, sustaining and measuring Movement at Work. The webinar will begin by introducing results taken from the latest studies into workers’ behaviors, then delve into strategies for promoting more movement at work. Additionally, as a member of multiple committees and as an overall thought-leader in ergonomics, Dr. Benden will share his uniquely qualified personal perspective on what trends, standards changes, and tools are ahead of us all – from emerging technologies for behavior-prompting and stress-detection, to new standards and national guidelines.

Dr. Mark E. Benden received his BS bioengineering, MS in industrial engineering and PhD from Texas A&M University. He is also a Certified Professional Ergonomist (CPE #706). With a 30-year career that spans working within government, commercial and educational settings, Dr. Benden is particularly interested in producing processes, tools and devices to decrease injury and illness risk. His accomplishments include 22 US Patents and multiple patent-pending inventions, various books, articles and speaking engagements, and currently, a stint as the Executive Director of the Texas A&M Ergo Center and Department Chair for the Environmental & Occupational Health Department within the School of Public Health.

OMChats gathers leading voices in architecture, interiors, and product design for a thoughtful discussion about the ideas shaping design and wellness. The inaugural Chat, titled Empathy and the Design of Extraordinary Experiences, was an in-person session featuring Los Angeles-based  architects Adaeze Cadet, AIA, LEED AP BD+C, Vice President at HKS and  Julie Smith-Clementi, AIA, ISDA, Product Designer and Architect, Smith-Clementi, as well as interior designer Sarah Barnard, WELL AP and LEED AP, Principal, Sarah Barnard Design.

The OM team relishes smart conversation and seeks to actively engage with the new ideas and practices that inform the spaces in which we work and create community. OM Chats marks the beginning of a more active and in-depth involvement in supporting these conversations in a public forum.
