IIDA NY Enlists Suzanne Tick for Pioneering Design® Series

Explore the Innovative Odyssey and Sustainable Artistry of Luum Textiles’ Creative Director

The International Interior Design Association’s New York Chapter (IIDA NY) proudly presents an intimate conversation with distinguished textile designer and creative visionary Suzanne Tick. As the first installment of the two-part Pioneering Design® Series in 2024, this event is scheduled for Wednesday, March 13th, at 5:30 pm. Join IIDA NY at the Teknion Showroom, located at 641 Avenue of the Americas in Manhattan.

Tick, creative director at Luum Textiles and design partner at Skyline Design, will share insights into her creative process and career path, and share examples of her woven work with attendees. A pioneer in incorporating sustainability into the contract textile industry, Tick is not only an accomplished artist but also a CEO, textile designer, weaver, and Vedic Meditation teacher. Her designs seamlessly blend with the artistry of handweaving, exemplifying an exceptional fusion of imaginative flair and practicality. In recognition of her achievements, Tick was inducted into the ASID College of Honorary Fellows in 2022 and Interior Design’s Hall of Fame in 2023.

In 2021, Tick reached a significant milestone with the creation of Grid State and Ecotone. These designs marked a groundbreaking achievement as the first-ever textiles in the contract industry crafted entirely from 100% biodegradable, post-consumer recycled polyester for Luum Textiles. This accomplishment aligned seamlessly with her commitment to advancing the forefront of sustainability. Building on this success, the Biotope and Intraweb were introduced in 2023, expanding the range of available biodegradable textiles.

“I’m thrilled to participate in IIDA NY’s upcoming Pioneering Design® Series,” says Tick. “I truly look forward to sharing my journey and passion for pioneering sustainability. I aim to empower designers and inspire them to consistently prioritize the most sustainable choices whenever possible.”

In addition to her industry work, Tick maintains a hand-weaving practice and creates fine art woven sculptures from repurposed materials on the two looms in the space that are collected and exhibited worldwide. Her work has been exhibited in MoMA, Cooper Hewitt, MAD, Art Basel, and the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts as well as collected by private and corporate clients.

The Pioneering Design® Series showcases the power of collaboration in design, which seeks to expand perceptions, open discussion and bring innovative ideas to our community. Tick will kick off the first part of the two-part series. Tickets for the upcoming Pioneering Design® event “A Visit with Suzanne Tick – Hall of Fame Inductee” may be purchased here. This event will provide 1 IDCEC CEUs.
