BWAF Leadership Awards Gala Mar. 5

Dear Friends,

At this time when gender equity issues are so much on everyone’s mind, I would like to invite you to the Beverly Willis Architecture Foundation’s 5th Leadership Awards Gala on Tuesday, March 5, 2019, at the Prince George’s Ballroom in Manhattan.

Please join me in honoring the following recipients who have made significant strides in changing the culture of the building industry to recognize women’s work past and present and to promote more women into positions of leadership: The Building Energy Exchange (Women in Sustainability and Energy (WISE)), Sylvia Smith (Senior Partner, FXCollaborative), Ned Cramer (Editor-in-Chief, Architect Magazine), Sabrina Kanner (Executive Vice President, Design & Construction, U.S. Office Division Brookfield Properties), Frances Bronet (President, Pratt Institute), and Zhanina Boyadzhieva and Juliet Chun (Girl Uninterrupted).

This event directly supports BWAF’s programs, advocacy and policy work, including annual programming including the Industry Leader’s Roundtable (which brings together thought leaders and large firm practitioners for an opportunity to develop and share best practices to support, promote and retain talented women),  and Emerging Leaders Series (a practical skill-based program aimed at women in mid-career); the original research and creation of the award-winning website of Pioneering Women of American Architecture, preserving the legacies of historically significant women born before 1940; speaking and writing engagements nationally intended toe behavio raising awareness; advice for women intending to form internal women’s groups; producing films such as A Girl is a Fellow Here about the women in Frank Lloyd Wright’s studio and Unknown New York, celebrating the work of past and contemporary women who have played leading roles in building NYC seminars advising women on what constitutes discriminatory and/or abusivr and how to handle it; the Built by Women (BxW) awards program recognizing significant work done by women in NYC, DC, and next LA;  and lobbying for the recognition of prominent women such as Denise Scott Brown, Julia Morgan, etc. by the AIA, the Pritzker and other award programs.
