Kettal is known for its stylish outdoor furniture with an impressive roster of luminaries including Patricia Urquiola, Naoto Fukasawa, and Rodolfo Dordoni designing pieces for the Spanish manufacturer. Now, the company presents a solution for the ever-changing workplace with the launch of its latest product, Pavilion O. Many organizations have adapted to social distancing requirements by creating designated areas within the main office. Employers and staff alike need products that can be easily reconfigured to meet a range of needs. Pavilion O is the ideal structure for our new work environments.

Kettal’s popular outdoor cabanas served as the inspiration for Pavilion O. Even before the pandemic, clients were asking if similar products could be created for indoor use. The design team began thinking about how to adapt their signature L and H pavilions for workspaces, especially as their corporate business continued to increase. When they developed Pavilion O, they predicted it would be a game-changer. “It was a natural evolution for us and no one had a cohesive, integral solution for the indoor world. When COVID-19 hit, we knew it was going to change the way we were all working, and that we would need the flexibility that Pavilion O offers,” said Carlos Alfaro, export director at Kettal.

Focus, meeting, hub, and support areas will be key in the post-pandemic workplace.

With Pavilion O, users can divide offices into zones and still have enclosed spaces for added privacy. It consists of an aluminum structure that can be fitted with a variety of materials, from glass, wood, and ceramic to fabric. Shelving, television units, whiteboards, and bulletin boards  can be added to create a one-of-a-kind unit that can complement any style of interior. And Pavilion O can allow for the integration of electrical cables.

Pavilion O transforms the interior landscape of the open office, giving employees a positive sensory experience. “In a typical office you see the natural divisions of the corridors and walls. If you’re in an open space, all you see are rows and rows of desks. With a Pavilion O structure, you have volume and perspective. It kind of breaks up a little bit of that flatness,” Alfaro noted.

Phone booths and meeting rooms can be created and used separately or in a range of combinations.

Pavilion O facilitates the creation of countless layouts that can work in large or small offices, and it can be quickly adapted to accommodate changes to headcount or department functions. This innovative modular system allows people to work how and where they want at the office so they can ultimately be more productive.

Modularity For Any Space

With Pavilion O, users can define their own areas in a way that meets the needs of on-site workers, as well as the specific requirements of the company on any given day. Post-pandemic workspaces will mimic a city, with sections for different types of tasks. Focus, meeting, hub, and support areas will be key, and Pavilion O can be used to craft modular edifices for each designated zone. It gives users the option to create several spaces, from a private booth for one person to a meeting room for a large group. The basic structure conforms to the grid layout commonly used in office planning, and it has ceiling heights that can fit in any interior. The unique clipping system, which Kettal calls “click and work,” means that various ecosystems can be created by just adding or decreasing wall panels. Only a simple small tool is needed to extract the panels, and within a few hours, structures can be changed. Pavilion O is easy to install and take down, a benefit to companies looking to save on construction or labor costs.

Pavilion O hubs have meeting areas and sofas, ideal for social gatherings at the office.

Focus and Meeting

Pavilion O can be used to craft booths for focused, heads-down work. With the phone booth options, employees can make private calls or hold video conferences without disturbing their colleagues. The design is inspired by the traditional telephone booth of days past. They each blend form and function, and provide echo-free environments. The exceptional acoustic properties and comfort ensure that workers communicate effectively, and that concentration is improved. Phone booth S is a pod with one seat. Phone booth L is a booth with two seats, convenient for a sit-down meeting with a co-worker. Phone booth XL is the largest, with four seats, and it gives users more space so they are not crammed in.

Meetings are an essential element of work, whether with clients or colleagues. Comfort is crucial, particularly when the conferences are of longer duration. Superior sound insulation provides a quiet, distraction-free space for gathering, without disturbing others nearby. The adaptable system allows for the integration of additional open modules with different functions. Pavilion O meeting structures can hold from 2-10 people.

Hub and Support

At a hub space, staff can have more social interaction. They can mingle and chat, have impromptu brainstorming sessions, or take time for a coffee break. The curved hub structure brings three zones under one roof, suitable for a variety of casual interactions. The hub walk-through structure has two spacious meeting rooms, one on each side of a more open gathering point. There’s an open hub with a meeting and sofa area, featuring a discussion space with a high table for six people. Attached to a sofa area, it is perfect for semi-private gatherings. The open hub with curtains has the look of a living room, while the open hub has a small bench at the rear. The outdoor hub was designed to be integrated with outdoor and indoor spaces.

Every modern office is expected to have support spaces, from reception areas to kitchens. The Pavilion O reception structure is ideal for clients and visitors. A reception space can also be created with a dedicated section for printing, and a meeting room. A section for lockers can be placed within the office, so that staff can hold personal items securely. The kitchen pavilion is a place where workers can eat, drink, and recharge.
