WorkSmith by Arcadia Makes Collaboration a More Hands-on Experience
Designed to support the makerspace movement and its influence across businesses, schools and healthcare facilities, WorkSmith is comprised of artisan-style objects that add a more human element to spaces. Pieces work together or independently to create a place where people with common interests can gather to work on projects while sharing ideas, equipment and knowledge.

In response to today’s hyper-digital world, the trending makerspace movement has emerged as a counterbalance to all of our high-tech tools and toys. Arcadia’s new WorkSmith collection celebrates this return to a simpler time when materiality, tactility and making things by hand were the source of new innovations. This new series of durable tables, benches, stools, cabinets, easels and carts embraces a spirit of craftsmanship and encourages collaboration through a more human-centric approach.
Representing Arcadia’s second collaboration with Rainlight Studio, WorkSmith was designed with problem-solvers in mind and the flexibility they require when working on projects together with others. The collection, manufactured from Ash wood, derives its beauty from use and only gets better with age. WorkSmith’s artisan-like aesthetic highlights the craft that went into its production, as evidenced in its exposed hardware, connectors and other components that are intentionally made visible to demonstrate how well the products are made. Its simplicity lends a more approachable element to collaborative environments and signals a departure from more formal areas within corporate offices, co-working spaces and educational facilities.
All of the products in WorkSmith are designed to complement each other but can also function as standalone pieces to help create flexible spaces where people gather while sharing equipment, knowledge and ideas. Tables are offered in three heights (29″, 36″and 42″) in various lengths and can be specified with solid wood, veneer or laminate tops in all standard or custom finishes, as well as clear glass tops on select table sizes for more upscale applications. Both tables and accompanying benches in the series are available with or without planked tops, and table bases come in solid wood or cast metal legs with coordinating shoulders in a textured matte black finish. For additional functionality, technology options for top surface placement and vertical wire management can be equipped on select tables.
Stools continue the rugged, mixed material design language of the WorkSmith collection and come in two easily adjustable heights, with or without a backrest and upholstered seat pad. Cabinet options include casters for ease of mobility, or fixed legs for stationary requirements, and can be specified with or without doors, as well as open on all sides. Additionally, select models can stack together to provide greater storage capacity. The eye-catching mobile cart doubles as an additional three-compartment storage unit and workstation, featuring all-black solid rubber tires and a convenient metal handle for easy relocation. Likewise, WorkSmith’s mobile easels can be quickly moved for brainstorming sessions or set off to the side when not in use and are offered in vertical or horizontal shapes with upholstered, whiteboard or writeable magnetic glass surface options.
“Arcadia is setting the tone for designing tangible, flexible solutions in teaming environments that promote a more hands-on approach to collaboration with the launch of WorkSmith,” said Helen Kim, Director of Marketing for Arcadia. “This inspiring collection honors craftsmanship and is built tough to withstand hard work while simultaneously introducing a human element in contract interiors that promotes more casual comfort and creativity. That’s a win-win in our book.”
With a wide range of options in sizes and material finishes to accommodate both functional and aesthetic preferences, WorkSmith is a truly unique collection that fits within any space where creative problem-solving and ingenuity takes place.
