Wolf-Gordon debuts Howl, a digital quarterly dedicated to exploring and promoting the role inspiration plays in the design process. Led by Wolf-Gordon CCO Marybeth Shaw, Howl is curated by esteemed design journalist Paul Makovsky, and is an amalgamation of illustrated feature articles, profiles, and cultural resources aimed at inspiring the interior designer’s own creative process. Resources drawn from parallel fields as well as from the global phenomena impacting that practice cut a broad swath of influence, with focus given to individuals, past and present, whose innovative craft and scholarship resonate with the Howl team.

“We’ve always believed our role is to—first and foremost—inspire and enable great design and that ethos extends beyond our products, says Marybeth Shaw, CCO at Wolf-Gordon. She continues, “Good design galvanizes future generations; we want to highlight the individuals who are forging new ground, while celebrating the impact their artistry, and that of those who came before, may have on others.”

This joyful impetus of collective inspiration from eclectic sources is evidenced in Howl’s inaugural issue. Featured topics range from quilt artist Michael C. Thorpe’s thoughts on forming a creative identity in a rarefied medium, to Studio O+A founder Primo Orpilla’s plans for a post-pandemic world, to an academic look at how Vkhutemas—considered the Soviet counterpart to the German Bauhaus—has left an indelible mark on the design world, despite being forced into obsolescence in an era fraught with political malfeasance. Additional sections are dedicated to spotlighting artists creating provocative work in painting, graphics, and textile art and a careful selection of 5 exhibitions, lectures or digital resources that cover a range of design-centric topics; a Collection Spotlight puts the focus on three Wolf-Gordon products that are particularly pertinent to today’s design landscape.

By creating a forum for customers to explore these resources, Wolf-Gordon hopes to increase the conversation around innovation and ingenuity, while paying homage to the individuals who blaze a path with their genius, contemporaneously and historically. On the heels of a year that left many creatives feeling listless and isolated, Howl is a dose of unbridled enthusiasm for creative inspiration.

Howl was visually conceived in collaboration with Ahoy Studios and will begin on a quarterly distribution schedule, with the second installment slated for release in June 2021. Digital issues will also be available to access via the Wolf-Gordon website at www.wolfgordon.com/howl.
