Relaunches Patterns from Laurinda Spear’s 2001 “Linework” Collection
2026 marks the 25th anniversary of American surface design company Wolf-Gordon’s pioneering design partnerships—a milestone that underscores its legacy as an early leader in collaborative interior finishes. Moving beyond traditional pattern styling, Wolf-Gordon was among the first in the commercial finishes industry to invite visionaries from the worlds of architecture and fine arts to bring a new level of conceptual depth to wallcoverings. This year, the company honors that spirit of exploration with a year-long initiative, revisiting its archives to reintroduce a curated selection of beloved designs – including works by Laurinda Spear, Karim Rashid, Tsao & McKown, and Petra Blaisse among others.
The anniversary celebration commences with a return to the collection that first defined this collaborative path: Linework by renowned architect and founding principal of Arquitectonica, Laurinda Spear. Originally debuted in 2001 to critical acclaim, Linework made manifest an ethos of conceptual strength that has guided Wolf-Gordon for a quarter-century. This reissue brings that original spirit back to the forefront, centering on the revitalization of the collection’s two most iconic patterns — Bamboo and Macao. By reimagining Spear’s architectural graphics with a color palette that combines several of her original colorways with new selections, and a heightened focus on modern materiality, the relaunch honors a legacy of innovative design that remains as relevant today as it was at its inception.
Linework revitalized a commercial wallcovering industry then-defined by repetitive anonymous designs. Spear drew inspiration from the precise, technical, manual art of architectural drafting – the ink-and-nib “linework” that defines a structure before it is built. By scaling up symbols for heating insulation and property lines, she created outsized, playful patterns infused with the saturated tropical colors and MiMo architecture of her native Miami. In this relaunch, Spear’s iconic Bamboo and Macao patterns are reimagined for the contemporary landscape, maintaining their architectural DNA while exploring new dimensions of saturation and scale.

By inviting visionaries to work outside their typical disciplines, Wolf-Gordon expanded the possibilities of surface design, moving beyond the expected to embrace a deeper conceptual foundation. Starting this 25th anniversary year with Laurinda’s designs enables us to celebrate the enduring relevance of her vision while reflecting on the bold partnerships that have shaped the Wolf-Gordon aesthetic.
The Reimagined Icons: Bamboo and Macao
Bamboo: Originally released in 2001, Bamboo remains one of Wolf-Gordon’s most popular designs. Its vertical stripes, composed of stacked lines at quirky, dynamic angles, evoke a mid-century modernism balanced with a cool, contemporary vibe. For this celebration, Bamboo is re-released in 19 colorways, including six original favorites like the iconic July and Platinum, alongside 13 updated shades such as jewel-toned Boysenberry, Papaya, and Navy.
Macao: Originally introduced in Spear’s 2007 follow-up collection, Geo-Graphic, Macao takes the playful verticality of Bamboo to more dramatic dimensions at 2x the scale. Featuring tilting horizontal lines of varying weights, the refreshed offering includes 13 new and original colorways featuring tropical combinations like pink and pistachio or orange on lilac.
Engineered for longevity, these Type II wallcoverings meet the rigors of commercial environments and are made in the USA. Committed to health and transparency, the collection is free of conflict minerals, heavy metals, and PFAs forever chemicals, and are CDPH Standard Method 013550 compliant for indoor air quality, with EPDs and HPDs available for all specifications.
