Winners of 2017 Best Interiors of Latin America and the Caribbean Competition Announced

The International Interior Design Association (IIDA) and Alessi proudly announce the winners of the 5th annual IIDA Best Interiors of Latin America and the Caribbean Competition. This competition recognizes and celebrates interior design/architecture projects that reflect the highest level of creativity, originality, and design excellence from Latin America and the Caribbean Islands.

“IIDA and Alessi are honored to showcase the incredible design talent represented in this region,” said IIDA Executive Vice President and CEO Cheryl S. Durst, Hon. FIIDA, LEED AP. “The winners of the 2017 Best Interiors of Latin America and the Caribbean Competition reflect the highest standard of excellence in interiors and emphasize the role of local inspiration and cultural context with sophisticated, globally-relevant designs.”

Projects were reviewed by a panel of design professionals, including: Kimshasa Baldwin, NCARB, NCIDQ, LEED AP, Principal, Deture Culsign, Architecture+Interiors; Edwin Beltran, IIDA, Assoc. AIA, Principal, NBBJ; and Suzette Subance Ferrier, IIDA, Studio Design Director, TPG Architecture.

“The firms that participated in the competition are continuing to elevate the quality of design work being done in Latin America,” said Beltran on behalf of the judges. “We are delighted by the outstanding creative and beautiful work. Congratulations to all of the winners!”

This year’s competition also featured the first-ever Narrative Award, which recognizes an interior design/interior architecture project with a compelling project statement that describes extraordinary circumstances surrounding a project or significant challenges that were overcome to deliver a project. The firm FGMF Arquitetos in São Paulo, Brazil was presented with the Narrative Award for its engaging presentation of the project Líder Flagship Store in São Paulo, Brazil.

The Best of Competition winner will be announced on July 27, 2017, during the first-ever awards reception at the new international IIDA Headquarters in Chicago, IL, USA, where all competition winners will be celebrated. Winning entries can be viewed on the IIDA website. Winners also will be published in an issue of Contract magazine, included in the official Winners Brochure, and promoted to more than 300,000 IIDA social media followers.
