The acclaimed architecture podcast has hosted over 700 guests over the past 10 years
USModernist Radio, one of America’s top-rated architecture podcasts, is celebrating its milestone 400th episode this month. It will be released on Monday April 14, 2025 on all major podcast platforms.
Since launching the podcast in 2015, hosts George Smart and Tom Guild have had fascinating conversations with over 700 guests, including architects, critics, authors, actors, and musicians. They cover a wide range of topics related to Modernism, including notable buildings and the architects who created them, the cultural significance of the movement, preservation efforts, as well as books and films that relate to the style. In addition to discussions about design, USModernist Radio also explores the sound of the midcentury era, with jazz and swing musical guests. This emphasis on the symbiosis between architecture and jazz makes it especially unique.
The 400th episode features interviews with actress and Modernist preservationist Kelly Lynch and architecture critic Kate Wagner; special announcer, comedian Frank King; and musical guest, Heather Rigdon. It will also include highlights from past episodes, including interviews with architects Bjarke Ingels; Myron Goldfinger, Moshe Safdie, Hugh Kaptur, Harry Bates, and Daniel Libeskind; Louis Kahn’s wife, Harriet Pattison; the last living Frank Lloyd Wright client, Roland Reisley; actor Suzanne Somers; and Professor and Youtube star Stewart Hicks.
“Our 700 wonderful guests, from the full spectrum of architecture, preservation, fashion, lifestyle, and jazz, have created an audio history of the Modernist movement that will inform and entertain owners, realtors, students, and the media for years to come”, says George Smart, Co-host and Founder of USModernist. “And we’re not done yet. Just this week we wrapped up shows 405 through 408. Stay tuned!”
