Three Sustainable Textiles Join Luum’s Garment Waste Platform

Luum Textiles has launched its second collection of 2025—Unified Field. Within the collection of six textiles are Forward Motion, Stability, and Subtle Stria, three sustainable fabrics that are also joining the brand’s Garment Waste Platform.

Luum works with mill partners in Italy and the United States who take discarded clothing and industry apparel waste, and transform the fabric—otherwise destined for the landfill—into high-performance textiles. The pre- and post-consumer recycled wool, acrylic, and polyester fibers are shredded down and re-spun into richly colored melange yarns, taking color from the original garments without the need for additional water, dyestuffs or energy.

These upholstery textiles have a wide range of use across industries, and are suitable for use in contract and hospitality interiors, or really any space where more color, texture, and visually-stimulating patterns are desired.

Forward Motion

Color, scale, proportion and materiality define Forward Motion, Luum’s first stripe for upholstery. Created on Luum’s recycled garment waste platform, pre-and-post consumer recycled wool garments are sorted, shredded, dyed, re-spun into yarns and woven into a new textile, diverting waste from the landfill. Each colorway of Forward Motion contains five stripe colors, where the varied layout rhythmically comes and goes across the width of the textile, picking up color coordination opportunities with Stability, Forward Motion’s solid coordinate.

Stability

Designed for enduring beauty and performance, Stability upholstery characterizes the inherent properties of wool: renewable, naturally thermoregulating, antimicrobial and soft to the touch. Created on Luum’s recycled garment waste platform, pre-and-post consumer recycled wool garments are sorted, shredded, dyed, re-spun into yarns and woven into a new textile, diverting waste from the landfill. Featuring 22 hues, Stability’s color range relates with Forward Motion, its multi-color stripe coordinate.

Subtle Stria

Another quality created on Luum’s recycled garment waste platform using pre- and post-consumer recycled materials, each colorway of Subtle Stria begins its second life when discarded garments and post-industrial textile waste are shredded back into fiber according to content. Multiple colors of the resulting fiber are mixed into a precise formula and spun together to create complex melange yarns. Dimensional multicolor slub yarns comingle with heathered yarns. The result is a soft textile suitable for contract and hospitality applications. Subtle Stria’s 16 colorways relate to the other upholstery textiles on the garment waste platform to create a sustainable and holistic, go-to toolbox for color, texture and pattern options.
