Thos. Moser Appoints Former L.L. Bean Executive Brad Kauffman as Chief Revenue Officer

Brad Kauffman

Thos. Moser, maker of handcrafted American furniture, announced that Brad Kauffman, former Senior VP of Business Transformation and Strategy at L.L. Bean will become the company’s new Chief Revenue Officer. Kauffman, a native of Philadelphia, spent over 20 years at L.L. Bean and five years at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, where he was VP and General Manager of Merchandise and Retail.

Thos. Moser President Aaron Moser made the announcement at the company’s Auburn headquarters in late July, noting that Kauffman would begin his new role on August 6. In his new role, Kauffman will be responsible for increasing the company’s catalogue and digital sales revenue and implementing new and improved merchandizing strategies at the company’s six showrooms in Freeport, Boston, New York City, Philadelphia, Washington, DC, and San Francisco.

“Brad comes to Moser with a long and proven track record of success, both at L.L. Bean and at the MET,” said Moser. “He possesses a deep understanding of brand development, marketing strategy, merchandising, information technology, and operations. I am thrilled to welcome Brad to our extraordinary leadership team.”

Kauffman’s business successes are numerous. He was on a team that implemented L.L. Bean’s Business Transformation Initiative, a sizeable investment in core processes, enterprise information systems, and organizational readiness. He helped launched the L.L. Bean Visa Card, now one of the industry’s most successful co-branded credit card programs. He also led the effort to restore profitability to the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s extensive retail division.

Kauffman noted that he sees distinct similarities between his new role at Thos. Moser and his previous work at L.L. Bean and the MET. “All of my former employers have embodied a strong mission to their merchandizing – at L.L. Bean it was the outdoor lifestyle, at the MET it was art appreciation and knowledge – this is one of the reasons that Moser is so attractive to me.” At Thos. Moser, Kauffman says he believes that effective merchandizing should revolve around the furniture’s exquisite joinery and the fine craftmanship that personifies the brand.

Kauffman received a B.A. in Psychology from Yale University and graduated from Harvard Law School. He and his wife Joan Adler (principal of the Yarmouth Middle School) are residents of Cumberland.

In a statement welcoming Kauffman, Aaron Moser noted that the company’s strong new leadership team gives him the ability to focus on external partnerships with residential customers and businesses, such as a newly won contract with the New York Public Library, and a number of colleges, universities and corporate entities across America that have chosen to furnish their institutions with Thos. Moser.
