Multi-Disciplinary Design Studio Introduces Open Discussion Series Alongside its Newest Furnishings During NYCxDESIGN

Think Fabricate.DialogueTable2From May 6-8, 2016 at BKLYN DESIGNS – an anchor fair of NYCxDESIGN focused on highlighting Brooklyn’s creative economy – Brooklyn-based design studio Think Fabricate will bring creativity in multiple forms to the show floor at Greenpoint’s Brooklyn Expo Center. In two spaces, the brand will display innovative furnishings – such as its fresh-for-spring Wall*nut Hexagons and brand new Dialogue Table and Bench – as well as host the THINK+ [TABLE] conversation series with its affiliated architecture firm Doban Architecture. Each day of the show, Think Fabricate and co-host Doban Architecture will welcome invited industry professionals and special guests to lead the dialogue, engaging BKLYN DESIGNS’ design-savvy attendees; all will be welcome to take a seat at the Dialogue Table and Benches – designed specifically with this initiative in mind – and participate. The discussion topics on the docket reflect the studio’s commitment to design solutions for better living and as well as its dedication to the Brooklyn design community.

Susan Doban AIA, founder of Think Fabricate and Doban Architecture and member of the BKLYN DESIGNS advisory board says, “We’re excited to introduce unique pieces designed and crafted in Brooklyn, reflecting our commitment to detail, artistry, and functionality. We especially look forward to having the opportunity to engage the design audience in relevant conversations at our series of talks throughout the three days of the show.”

Think Fabricate.Wall-nut HexagonsThink Fabricate will debut the Dialogue Table and Dialogue Bench at the THINK + [TABLE] space opposite the Think Fabricate booth, creating a thoughtfully designed venue for the conversation series as well as a place for attendees to take a moment of relaxation and reflection throughout the show. The Dialogue Table, suitable for dining or work, is crafted from maple hardwood with brass geometric highlights. The defining graphic tabletop design evolved from the studio’s exploration of hexagonal forms and indicates its appreciation of materials, craft, and collaborative design dialogue among designers and fabricators. The detailed, refined, and complementary Dialogue Benches feature subtle chamfers for comfort, and two visual ‘halves’ connected by a brass in-lay. A walnut version of these benches will be shown in the Think Fabricate booth with other products new for spring 2016: Tapered Chamfer Dining Table (the studio’s first ever dining table) and Tapered Chamfer Mirror (a wall-leaning mirror), both also featuring the signature graduated taper detail, in walnut hardwood. Creating an intriguing juxtaposition with these rectangular forms will be the Wall*nut Hexagons – a highly functional yet decorative wall installation of hexagonal mirrors, panels, shelves, and storage compartments – displayed in a new horizontal format designed to work as the perfect backdrop for the Tapered Chamfer Dining Table. This installation will also demonstrate the innovative way that plants can be integrated into a wall-mounted display using plexiglass inserts.

As a long-standing exhibitor at BKLYN DESIGNS, the brand will also pay homage to its reputation for stellar cabinetry design, and bring back its Wall*nut Medicine Cabinet, from its ‘Brooklyn Classics’ collection – a recently defined group of products that is quintessentially Think Fabricate. The award-winning WORK n PLAY media cabinet will also return to the show as well as the stool/side table hybrid (also featuring tapered chamfer edges) TAKE a SEAT, two of which fit neatly into the media cabinet.

Think Fabricate.3Accompanying these beautiful, modern furnishings, the THINK + [TABLE] conversations will create an open, fluid environment, where attendees at BKLYN DESIGNS are invited to interact with these new pieces, and take a seat alongside industry professionals to discuss important design topics. This program, born in-house at Doban Architecture, demonstrates the dedication of both brands to thoughtful design.

THINK + [   ] started as a monthly series with the purpose of promoting an open dialogue on a wide range of topics in our office,” says Natalia Klusek, Senior Designer at Doban Architecture. “We’re very excited for the THINK + [TABLE] debut at BKLYN Designs this year and hope to spark an engaging discussion about topics ranging from designed objects and space to the parameters that form and shape both, including Brooklyn itself.”

Each day of the show, a different relevant and accessible topic will be discussed over refreshments:

The New International Style: Brooklyn, May 6, 5-5:30pm

A discussion about Brooklyn’s true character on a local and global scale. What does ‘Brooklyn Style’ mean to its inhabitants? What is it in the eyes of the world? And with its global influence, has it become the new ‘International Style’?

Transforming Concepts of Luxury and Living Space, May 7, 4:30-5pm

A discussion about how we define luxury in Brooklyn today. With a wider range of living typologies, is efficiency a necessity or a choice?

Meaningful Objects, May 8, 2-2:30pm

A discussion that gets to the heart of the question: How are objects that occupy our space chosen? How do we form connections to the objects in our lives, and which of these objects are indicative of our life and its legacy?
