Ted Moudis Associates Releases 2016 Workplace Report
Report spans multiple industries and more than 2.5 million square feet of workspace built over the past three years
Ted Moudis Associates, a leading architectural and interior design firm, announced the release of its 2016 Workplace Report—comprehensive insight into how companies today are using their office space.
The report encompasses more than 2.5 million square feet of workspace built over the past two years—including data from workplaces across four sectors throughout the United States. This wealth of data makes possible the discernment of several current and future trends, such as the move to more efficient footprints, a reduction of total area per occupant, the shift toward more communal workspace, and the gradual disappearance of paper from the office.
“These findings further validate the progressive strategies that are now being adopted by many organizations and firms which up until now had largely maintained traditional workplaces,” commented Justin Mardex, a senior associate and director of Workplace Strategy at Ted Moudis Associates. “Amenities and alternative workspaces are supporting mobility, collaboration and focus work in new ways.”
Other trends identified in the report include:
- Benching/desking has become the prevailing solution for open plan, with 67% off all open workspaces now adopting this platform instead of traditional cubicles.
- Private offices accounted for just 11% of the more than 1,700 workspaces benchmarked, bringing the proportion of open plan workspace to an all time high of 89%.
- On average, 47% of the seats available to staff were designated as “alternative seats,” in meeting rooms, cafés, lounges and quiet areas – driving the ratio of shared seats upwards to nearly one per every worker.
The 2016 Workplace Report was compiled by the Workplace Strategy Team at Ted Moudis Associates. For more information about the report, or to contact a Ted Moudis Associates Workplace Strategy expert, please call Carl Gaines or Lindsay Church at (212) 741-2977. Download the report here.
