Bringing a wide portfolio of experience, architect Kim Wood joins architecture and interior design firm Spacesmith to help expand presence in Hudson, N.Y, and nationally.
Reflecting a longstanding commitment to design excellence and to close and collaborative client relationships, the nationally recognized architecture and interiors firm Spacesmith has announced its addition of highly regarded project manager and architect, Kim Wood, as well as the elevation of new projects across varied geographies and project types.
Known widely as a champion of her clients’ best interests and of innovative design solutions, Kim Wood, AIA, has worked across a wide range of sectors including retail, corporate, hospitality and commercial building projects, with experience in everything from data centers to fragrance laboratories to fashion boutiques. Wood served as in-house architect for a major carpentry contractor and previously, as global account director for Verizon, Wood led over $8 million in annual services before joining Spacesmith, adding to her career with extensive design and project management experience in commercial interiors.
In her new position as Associate and Senior Architect, Wood will lead building projects and contribute to firm leadership including design, client management, and business development. According to Spacesmith, Wood will lead new design projects and business initiatives through the firm’s offices in both New York City and Hudson, New York.
Wood, a graduate of Pratt Institute, has been honored by New York University’s Tandon School of Engineering for her MakerSpace project, which garnered a Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce award in 2017. Work led by Wood and her project teams have been published widely over the years, including in Architect Magazine, Contract, Urban Land and other design, business and real estate publications. Wood moved from Brooklyn to the Hudson River Valley area of New York in part for new, challenging project opportunities and to pursue her interests in horseback riding and volunteer canine rescue.
“Practitioners like Kim Wood, among the many accomplished senior members of our team, represent a new generation of leadership in design and strategic partnership for client relations,” says Jane Smith, FAIA, IIDA, founding partner at the firm. “Our team’s combined experience underscores how Spacesmith elevates the importance of our clients’ businesses and organizations as much as the value of design excellence.”
In related news, Spacemith has announced recent completions and additions of several building projects and interiors works in the New York region and globally. Completed recently is the head office for the New York Legal Assistance Group (NYLAG), the leading civil legal services organization combatting economic, racial, and social injustice by advocating for people experiencing poverty or in crisis. Spacesmith also debuted a major film and video production facility for Upriver Studios in Saugerties, N.Y., and in New York City, a consolidated headquarters for affiliated labor unions. Works underway include cultural and arts centers, interiors for diplomatic facilities, an education workplace for a major museum, and workplaces for major financial services entities. The firm is also active designing works for agriculturally based businesses in the Hudson River Valley region as well as locations for couture retailers nationwide.

In acknowledging the roles of Wood and other Spacesmith professionals as key leaders in the firm, the announcement also underscore the firm’s widely known commitment to core values of highly crafted, client-driven solutions. The firm’s associates and principals lead projects and client accounts and, within Spacesmith, act as mentors for emerging professionals. Wood, along with other firm leaders, is active in managing key aspects of the firm’s operations and development.
“At Spacesmith, we believe in giving our team members every opportunity to advance professionally and grow with our firm,” added Smith. “Across every project they’ve handled, their work and efforts reflect a holistic and comprehensive approach to the planning, design and construction process.”
