Smith & Fong Launches Panelized Ceiling Systems in Bamboo

Smith & Fong.Plyboo Ceilings

Pioneering bamboo interior finishes manufacturer Smith & Fong Co. announced the debut of Plyboo Ceilings, a line of 40 different carved and textured ceiling panels, according to Smith & Fong president Angus Stocks.

The new system employs the company’s popular carved bamboo panel products—including the Reveal, Sound, Linear, and Linear Sound Collections—all of which are specifically fabricated to fit all standard ceiling grids or can be installed in large panels up to 4’x10’ for custom applications.

“Our Reveal, Linear and Sound Collections have been our most popular products in the commercial segment for the past year,” Stocks said. “A ceiling provides a large canvas for design inspiration and Plyboo Ceilings give the designer a brand-new palette from which to work.”

Plyboo Ceilings in Reveal create a stunning, three-dimensional visual effect, as the panel’s face is carved in designed patterns to reveal its inner core layers. The Sound Collection comprises a multitude of new designs for ceilings that push a predominantly linear look in both an asymmetrical and parallel-lined panel; its carved interior contributes to the sound-absorbing characteristics of these panels, which offer a noise reduction coefficient (NRC) up to 0.70. Some of the looks in the Linear Collection are inspired by the depth and movement of hand-loomed fabric; the carved face layers reveal unique inner fiber strands, which can give a striking and tactile touch in a ceiling application. The Linear Sound Collection combines qualities of both the Reveal and Linear collections as well as offering subtle secondary patterns and superior noise control components not available in the other designs.

Plyboo Ceilings are made from 100-percent FSC®-Certified, rapidly renewable bamboo; the panels pass VOC emissions standards ULEF (ultra-low emitting formaldehyde), which surpass the current CARB II standards. The panels are fabricated in ¾” and ½” thicknesses and are Class B or C fire rated. Utilizing Smith & Fong’s proprietary RealCore™ technology ensures the revealed cores are consistent and that layers of bamboo material in bi-directional construction enable stability and strength throughout all Plyboo Ceiling products.
