Robert Allen DC Showroom Nationally Recognized for Bright Design Ideas
Robert Allen’s newly refreshed Washington DC showroom has been recognized by the Illumination Engineering Society with two awards for its excellence in lighting use. The first award, the National Illumination Award Certificate of Merit, distinguishes Robert Allen on a national level, while the District of Columbia Illumination Engineering Society Candela Award honors them locally. In addition to creating an attractive ambiance, the showroom was selected for its thoughtful use of LED lighting to achieve an environmentally-friendly space.
The showroom opened in fall 2014 and was designed by Chicago-based firm marquardt+, and the two awards recognize the space for its excellence in lighting design, distinguishing its innovative and thoughtful use of lighting.”

The lighting throughout the showrooms showcases the textiles and design through a range of fixtures, from oversized pendant lights to track lighting. Additionally, the use of LED lighting throughout the showroom proves Robert Allen’s dedication to environmentally friendly design– the lights are especially energy efficient to keep the spacious showroom lit without using copious amounts of electricity.
The Illumination Engineering Society District of Columbia Section — IES Candela Award seeks to recognize a DC design that showcases professionalism, ingenuity, and originality of lighting design. The Illumination Engineering Society of North America National Illumination Award Certificate of Merit honors the showroom on a national scale for its effective and fresh implementation of lighting. Judges for the program were selected from a broad professional spectrum representing knowledge of lighting and industry excellence.
