The Designer’s Fourth Collection With the Brand Transforms Outdoor Inspirations Into Luxurious Interiors
Explore “Moments of Wander” with HBF Textiles through the eyes of Christiane Müller as she looks to her own travels, highlighting the beauty and diversity that surrounds us, zooming in and out to see the scenery through different lenses. As an expert in woven textiles and color, Müller launches a collection of three indoor outdoor fabrics that capture fleeting moments in her environment, using natural details to create outdoor approved textiles that are tough but still retain indoor woven qualities.
“My starting point for ‘Moments of Wander’ was my long-standing fascination with the myriad structures and colors I encounter in nature,” shares Müller, designer and partner in the Amsterdam-based interior architecture firm MüllerVanTol. “Over time, I’ve built up an archive of sorts: albums full of nature photos and a library of pocketed keepsakes – pebbles from the beach, seashells washed ashore – that continuously inspire my creative process in designing fabrics. The collection brings precious moments from my wanderings in the outside world, indoors.”
“Moments of Wander” marks Müller’s fourth collection with HBF Textiles, building upon 16 years of collaboration. What truly sets “Moments of Wander” apart is its ability to evoke emotions and memories, reconnecting us with nature even within the confines of our interior spaces. The three designs reflect Müller’s desire to recreate this nurturing feeling in both interior and exterior spaces. Each explores the natural world in its own unique way, from the panoramas of Fields of Velvet to the landscapes of Trails of Tweed to the biodiversity of meadows in Seeds of Colour, inviting us to stop and admire their beauty while humbly reminding us of nature’s magnitude, fragility, and universal language.
The trio is an ode to the ephemeral, cyclical nature of the world – and to nature’s perseverance – its constant reinvention. The tactility shares the same randomness, serendipity, and order found in nature, capturing fleeting moments of the ever-changing environment, like the weathering of stones or an overgrown garden. ‘Moments of Wander’ not only showcases Christiane Müller’s creative vision but also highlights HBF Textiles’ commitment to artistry, quality, and innovation. Each fabric is skillfully crafted by talented artisans, seamlessly blending Müller’s expertise in material solutions and textiles design with human creativity. The result is a collection that is not only visually captivating but also narrates the harmonious connection between nature, design and impactful materials.
Fields of Velvet
A woven indoor/outdoor velvet with a loop and cut pile, Fields of Velvet features five colorways that capture the essence of outdoor experiences, like lying on the ground while looking up at the trees or walking through soft moss on the forest floor. The rich and diverse multicolored fabric is the result of a collaboration between Müller and the weaving mill, a standout for its intricate double-loom weave, complex colorwork, and rare outdoor durability. A sense of randomness, rather than repetitive patterning, reveals new details each time you look – just like in nature.
Trails of Tweed
The earth’s surface is made up of a myriad of colors and materials, something Trails of Tweed aims to capture through its diversity. “It recalls my wanderings through the volcanic mountains of Lanzarote, the deserts of Maroc and Mali, and the canyons of the national parks in America, discovering different shades of oxidized stones, rocks, and pebbles,” Müller shares. A structured, matte fabric shows off the multidimensionality of earth, while the irregular thickness gives the textile a crafted, handloom feel. The one-of-a-kind multicolored yarns demonstrate Müllers innate sensitivity to color, creating new stories that run the gamut from high contrast to tonal for a result that’s as surprising as nature itself!
Seeds of Colour
The pattern’s 13 colorways and irregular micro-check may seem uncomplicated, but Seeds of Colour weaves the entire “Moments of Wander” collection together while also beautifully standing on its own. Borrowing from nature’s palette – flowers, grasses, trees, and herbs – the design uses various shades, represented by thread colors carefully chosen by Müller in its warp and weft, allowing for the creation of new, never before seen tones. Sunflower, Jasmine, Dahlia, and Primrose (Seeds of Colour names) are inspired by flower-filled meadows and gardens designed by landscape and garden architect Piet Oudolf, a very inspirational figure of Müller.
Ultimately, the collection welcomes designers and architects to create their own “Moments of Wander”, where each combination of fabrics, structures, and colors fosters a new connection to the outdoors within interior spaces.
