Momentum Textiles & Wallcovering Debuts New Wallcovering Collaboration With Renowned Artist, Illustrator, and Style Icon Rebecca Moses

The collection, Rebecca Moses x Momentum, will debut at BDNY 2024, November 10-11 in New York.

Momentum Textiles & Wallcovering is thrilled to announce the launch of an one-of-a-kind collaboration with renowned American artist, fashion designer and illustrator Rebecca Moses: the Rebecca Moses x Momentum collection. Globally renowned for her eclectic and celebratory style, Moses’ work champions individuality, femininity, and diversity through its maximalist visual storytelling.

Momentum’s collaboration with Moses represents the culmination of a long history of celebrated partnerships with artists and designers including Yinka Ilori, Sheila Hicks, Shantell Martin, Aleksandra Gaca, and more. As the industry’s largest U.S. supplier of commercial textiles and wallcovering, Momentum was the natural choice to help Moses launch her first-ever wallcovering designs. The Rebecca Moses x Momentum collection deconstructs two of Moses’s well-known painted women, “The Queen” and “Kimono Lady,” into their most basic elements and transforms them into wallcovering prints ideal for bringing personality and storytelling to a range of hospitality and commercial spaces.

“Momentum prides itself on fostering collaborations that push the boundaries of commercial design through storytelling,” says Jennifer Nye, Chief Marketing & Creative Officer, Momentum. “Our partnership with Rebecca Moses is a powerful example of this commitment. Her ability to capture individuality and personality through her art aligns perfectly with our vision to create commercial spaces that empower individuals to tell compelling stories. The Rebecca Moses x Momentum collection offers designers an extraordinary opportunity to explore and express diverse narratives in their own medium. Bringing this to market fills us with immense pride, and we’re confident it will transform interior spaces.”

A persona of artistic inspiration, “The Queen” debuted at the White Shirts gallery exposition in New York, which showcased paintings of groundbreaking women who embrace their beauty, diversity, and individuality. Confident in her design choices, The Queen wears a simple white shirt, but her accessories and poise make her stand out — her broach, necklace, and even The Queen herself manifest as design elements within the collection. Similarly, “Kimono Lady,” drawn from Moses’ Kimono Lady canvas, inspired a series of patterns that celebrate diversity and the endless possibilities of embracing one’s identity, with an evolving, eclectic style that blends traditional and modern influences. Her distinct and bold patterns reflect her multifaceted nature, representing a journey from delicate femininity to empowerment and reminding us that beauty and strength are amplified by the courage to be different.

The deconstructed elements in the Rebecca Moses x Momentum collection are opportunities for designers to create new moods and narratives by mixing and matching styles. “Each of us has a backstory,” Moses explains. “What I’m doing with Momentum is allowing people to look at the beauty within each person, as well as the power within them. By championing ourselves and our own individuality, we’re helping designers to break boundaries and create commercial spaces that tell stories about the beauty of mixing things up.”

Rebecca Moses x Momentum features 10 distinct wallcovering prints: Reflection (featuring The Queen’s portrait), Deco Dreams (an art deco-inspired repetition of The Queen’s broach), Queen’s Dots and Queen’s Montage, both kaleidoscope interpretations of patterns within the illustration; from Kimono Lady comes Close Up, featuring her portrait, Kimono Mosaic (a maximalist repetition of her clothing), Kimono Untamed (a minimalist pattern), and Fleur, which translates the portrait’s floral watercolor elements to large-scale wallcovering. Additionally, the collection also features a gallery of Moses’s painted women figures in the aptly named Portrait Gallery as well as Have a Seat, a repetitive exploration of Moses’s watercolor chair illustrations. To complement the stunning wallcoverings, Momentum has also curated a selection of their most elegant textiles, allowing designers to mix and match with ease.

One of the first American fashion designers to enter the European market in the 1990s, Moses first garnered recognition for modernizing the Italian ready-to-wear house Genny, where she succeeded Gianni Versace. She went on to revolutionize cashmere with her eponymous designer label. Her prolific work in fashion illustration has attracted elite publishers and global brands such as Italian Vogue, Vogue Japan, Marie Claire Italia, MAC Cosmetics, Fratelli Rossetti, Panerai, Kartell, Alcantara, and Vera Wang, who have all sought out her stylish eye and wit. Her first book A Life of Style showcases her vision and highlights her importance as a creative force, inspiring Ralph Pucci to commission her for a full line of mannequins based on her illustrations. Moses has exhibited her art in New York, Miami, Los Angeles, Milan, and Tokyo.

Momentum, in partnership with Moses, will feature the collection at an exhibition-style event in New York City in January 2025. The collection will also be previewed in November 2024.
