Pioneer and Leader, Victoria Cerami Paves Path for Women Engineers

Top spots in acoustical engineering firms are primarily held by men. But Victoria Cerami takes a back seat to none of them, and she wants to ensure that other women have the chance to earn their way to the top of this competitive field.

Her firm, Cerami & Associates, Inc., is a nationally renowned consultancy focused on innovative building solutions, and one of just a few such firms that is women-owned.

To inspire more women to consider acoustical engineering as a career choice, Ms. Cerami recently endowed the Cerami Acoustical Engineering Scholarship Fund. Awarded to a female student studying acoustical engineering at her alma mater, the University of Hartford, the award recipient is selected by an independent committee of local business leaders. In addition, Cerami’s firm also established the Vito V. Cerami Scholarship Fund through the ACE Mentor Program of Greater New York, which has awarded $40,000 to young women pursuing studies in mechanical engineering.

Recognizing her professional achievements and support for the next generation of women in engineering, a string of new honors have put Cerami & Associates — and Cerami herself — into even more news headlines.

Recently, Ms. Cerami received the 2017 Brava Award, given to a woman in a CEO-level position “who is as passionate about giving back as about running a successful company.” Cerami was selected for the honor to reflect her entrepreneurship in leading a 100-person firm with three U.S. offices, as well as for her positive impact on communities she serves. Just prior to this, Cerami & Associates received the prestigious Audiovisual Providers of Excellence or APEx recognition, conferred by the group InfoComm to certify firms with outstanding capabilities in the field of audiovisual design, making it among the first women-owned companies to earn APEx.

Cerami is the first to acknowledge that she’s an exception in her field, but she sees the University of Hartford scholarship as a direct way to make a difference in the careers and lives of emerging professionals. “Our company’s core principles include excellence in design and service as well as lifelong learning, empathy, and passionate responsibility,” says Victoria J. Cerami, CEO. “We’re dedicated to promoting diversity within our industry, as well as excellence.”
