The International Interior Design Association (IIDA) is proud to announce that Executive Vice President and CEO Cheryl S. Durst, Hon. FIIDA is featured as a “Changemaker” in the “Imagine Your Impact” interactive exhibition at the newly opened Obama Presidential Center. Curated by The Obama Foundation, the inaugural exhibit highlights individuals whose work is driving meaningful, grassroots change in their communities and industries.
The Obama Foundation selected 33 contemporary Changemakers to be featured within the digital, interactive stations located throughout the museum at opening, with plans to showcase additional changemakers over time to show the range of actions individuals can take to make a difference. Notably, Durst is one of a handful of Chicagoans featured in this inaugural selection of global leaders.

The “Imagine Your Impact” exhibition encourages visitors to think about creating change and the power of collective action. Inspired by Barack and Michelle Obama’s belief in the power of grassroots action, the exhibition showcases leaders driving meaningful progress. Rather than being confined to one central gallery, the interactive features span multiple designated areas throughout the museum, utilizing digital kiosks and video monitors to showcase the Changemakers and their video interviews.
Durst is featured in the Inclusivity section with a dedicated station, as well as an interactive digital art installation where her video interview is shown. In her featured interview, she discusses how design can serve as a powerful force for change—advancing agency, equity, and inclusivity. Her exhibit highlights IIDA’s pathway program for underserved high school students, demonstrating how expanding opportunities for diverse practitioners and increasing awareness of quality design as a fundamental right can create lasting impact.
