Okamura introduced a major showroom redesign for NeoCon 2024, highlighting their new global brand concept; “To the last detail”.
Okamura has been thrilled to introduce a completely redesigned showroom for NeoCon 2024, centered around Okamura’s new brand concept “To the last detail.” Founded in 1945, Okamura has built its reputation on the pillars of ultra-precise design & development, originating from aviation engineering. This heritage has cultivated a deep-rooted craftsmanship and a commitment to quality that respects both human needs and environmental considerations.
This year, the exhibition’s creative direction was led by Nippon Design Center, a prestigious design firm with a broad portfolio of collaborations, including work with global brands such as MUJI and Toyota. Their involvement ensured a presentation that not only reflects Okamura’s dedication to quality and innovation, but also emphasizes the unique, detailed-oriented approach that is often seen from Japanese brands.
The front entrance of the showroom highlights sustainable design with a future model of Okamura’s pioneering “Multi-Density 3D Mesh.” This technology uses three distinct levels of firmness that conform ergonomically to the body’s shape, significantly reducing strain while sitting. Crafted from 100% recyclable new material, it is an embodiment of Okamura’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and the company’s road towards carbon neutrality. Additionally, exhibiting “To the last detail,” allowed visitors to explore various facets of Okamura’s design philosophy through four uniquely themed display areas: Installation, Engineering, Scene, and the Feeling Room.
The “Engineering” section is designed like a high-tech lab, revealing the meticulous detail and thoughtful innovation that go into areas of our products that are typically unseen. It’s here that the hidden beauty and intricate craftsmanship within the seats and backrests of Okamura products are displayed, illustrating the unseen complexities that contribute to their renowned durability and elegance.
In the “Scene” areas, formed by some of Okamura’s latest and most sought after products, visitors experienced various workspaces that mirror the team-oriented nature of the modern office environment, while the “Feeling Room” offers a hands-on experience with a range of Okamura’s signature task and executive seating. These spaces have been designed to provide a comprehensive feel of the product’s physical and aesthetic appeal, allowing visitors to appreciate the comfort and superior design brought forth by Okamura’s extensive engineering expertise.
In addition to the new global branding concept, Okamura introduced the award winning Specere chair, designed by the renowned Andreas Krob from Switzerland. This chair is a modern homage to iconic style, embodying minimalism and simplicity in its purest form. Showroom visitors had the opportunity to experience Specere’s “Active Move” mechanism, which intelligently responds to individual body weight and supports healthy multi-directional movement while seated. Inspired by the drafting chairs of the 1950s and reimagined for the modern office, Specere was well received by this year’s NeoCon attendees and was the recipient of both the HiP Award and Best of NeoCon Silver in the task seating category.
As Okamura showcased “To the last detail,” for the first time, visitors were invited to experience a display and products that merge modern Japanese aesthetics with cutting-edge technological applications, crafting a narrative of meticulous design that enhances both function and form in office furniture. Okamura’s Chicago showroom is located at Suite 1100 in the Mart, Chicago.
