OFM Unveils New Sit-to-Stand Office Desktop Riser, Offering Ergonomic Benefits
N.C. furniture manufacturer introduces new product to help employees stay healthier at work
OFM, one of the nation’s leading office and school furniture manufacturers and distributors, announced today it has unveiled a new sit-to-stand office desktop riser, which easily transforms any existing work surface into a standing desk, giving end-users an easy option to stand while they work without replacing their current desk. The benefits of being able to choose to either sit or stand throughout the day will help employees stay healthier at work.
“Doctors now recommend that office workers minimize the amount of time that they spend sitting, but you don’t always want to work standing up all day either,” said Blake Zalcberg, president of OFM. “Our new desktop riser offers the best of both worlds.”
The OFM Height Adjustable Sit-to-Stand Desktop Riser with Keyboard Tray includes a hydraulic-assisted lift mechanism that allows users to adjust the height of their computer monitors and keyboard trays from a standard sitting height to a standing position in seconds. The riser includes a platform with 15 separate height adjustments, ranging from 5.9 inches to 19.7 inches above the desk, and comes with an attached keyboard tray and a convenient slot for holding tablets and smartphones at the perfect angle while you work. A grommet on the top can be removed to add an ergonomic bolt-on monitor arm for additional adjustability.
A 2015 study in the Annals of Internal Medicine found that sitting for several hours a day increases the risk of chronic disease, and many experts recommend alternating periods of sitting and standing at work. OFM says the desktop riser is just the beginning of what’s to come and that dealers and end-users alike can expect to see several new OFM products in the coming year all aimed at making the workday less taxing on the body. OFM will showcase the new desktop riser at two tradeshows this week: EDspaces, an annual trade show and conference for buyers and sellers of educational furniture, and EPIC, held by the TriMega Purchasing Association and Independent Stationers.
“Standing at work is just like any other exercise: the easier it is to do, the more likely that you’ll do it,” added Zalcberg. “With our desktop riser, you can easily work standing whenever you want, which means you’ll be more likely to get up.”
