Design Pavilion Returns on May 7 – 15
New York City’s premier public design exhibition, Design Pavilion, will return for its 5th edition on May 7 – 15 as part of NYCxDESIGN. The internationally acclaimed 9-day event celebrates creativity and sustainability by offering inspiring interactive installations by leading architects and designers in Times Square and beyond. Two inspiring installations on view are FILTER and Pratt’s Pop Up/Drop Off. A 20-foot-tall steel ellipsoid pavilion in Times Square, FILTER, was thoughtfully designed by CLB Architects to create a place of contemplation removed from the chaos of city noise and everyday life. Developed by a team of Pratt undergraduate architecture students, Pratt’s Pop Up/Drop Off is an inflatable structure created to investigate design activism around plastic waste, available to view on West 46th St. and 7th Ave.
During the Festival, NYCxDESIGN will unveil the winning design installations from its inaugural competition, IMPACTxDESIGN, in partnership with Caesarstone. Designers Karim Rashid and Kickie Chudikova developed compelling concepts for Dumbo Brooklyn and Downtown Manhattan, showcasing how dynamic design can foster engagement and enhance public space, one of the city’s most valuable resources. The two structures will be on view through Winter 2023.
