Designed by Evangelos Vasileiou for Ligne Roset, the Humphrey armchair’s two massive volumes of the seat and back float in the air, suspended from a slim, elegant structure, a gesture like the pen-stroke of a calligrapher. To the steel wire and fabric of the seat, a third material is added for the armrest: solid sculpted wood, a noble, welcoming material which functions like a punctuation mark to the fluid writing of the structure. Vasileiou is revisiting the 1950s with his very appropriately-named Humphrey armchair, which is just as classically chiseled as the famous actor for which it’s named. Accompanied by its footrest, it becomes a chaise lounge.
New for spring 2018: the Humphrey fireside chair. Developed from the armchair (fall 2017 launch), the fireside version is without armrests, with more substantial legs (20mm wire instead of 11mm) and with a crocodile clip on its right-hand side which enables it to be linked (ganged) to other fireside chairs to form a 2-seat banquette, 3-seat, or as many as one chooses. Plomb-colored metal base; seat in leather or fabric; armrests (for the armchair) in natural or black-stained oak.
