New Collection from Designtex – Coco Series
The Coco Series–conceived by renowned Dutch textile designer Hélène Dashorst–is a group of three luxurious fabrics that celebrate innovation in spinning techniques and the creation of unusual yarns. Named for the iconic fashion designer Coco Chanel, the Coco Series has captured the spirit of the iconic Chanel look by exploding the scale and combining lustrous and matte yarns in an inventive way.
“I wanted to create upholstery fabrics that had a fashionable but modern look—Chanel for the interior”, says Dashorst. I collaborated with a mill that understood what I was after and created custom warps for me that mixed a variety of yarns in a random layout. Withtheir special yarns I was able to experiment on my handloom and arrive at the final constructions. For me, designing is like cooking; I put ingredients together, mix, cook, taste and decide if the dish needs a little something more or less.”

Hélène Dashorst Bio
Designer Hélène Dashorst has made a career out of exploring materials and collaborating with forward-thinking manufacturers to push the boundaries of what is possible in woven textiles. The inspiration she derives from materials, technique and color is only a starting point for extensive research and experimentation to discover new and innovative ways to combine these basic elements.
Her training began in her native city of Amsterdam at the Rietveld Academie and led to internships with Studio Premela and Jack Lenor Larsen. She opened her own studio in 1991, where she continues to create designs for clients worldwide. Dashorst’s recent collection of luxurious upholstery fabrics for Designtex exemplifies her design passions and principles:
