National Office Furniture, a unit of Kimball International, Inc., is pleased to announce that their Boston Showroom has been awarded LEED-CI Silver certification from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). The showroom, designed by CBT Architects, received this certification for energy and water usage, lighting, and material selections, as well as incorporating a variety of other sustainable strategies.

LEED, or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is a certification program for buildings and communities that guides their design, construction, operations, and maintenance toward sustainability. It’s based on prerequisites and credits that a project meets to achieve a certification level.

The Boston showroom received points for various design and structural elements. The location of the showroom, at the junction of the Financial and Leather Districts, in the Two Financial Center building, is adjacent to a key transportation hub, thus earning points for its proximity to public transportation. The showroom’s full height windows allow for natural daylight and LED lighting reduces energy usage and cooling costs. Low emitting materials, including National’s furniture, construction materials, and architectural features enhanced Indoor Air Quality. Thermal comfort points were obtained and contribute to occupant productivity and well-being.

“We are proud of this accomplishment. This honor celebrates National’s ongoing dedication to sustainability within our facilities, our showrooms, our products, and our culture,” said Mendy Claridge, Director of Sustainability, LEED AP ID+C, National Office Furniture.
