Recognized Projects in Built, Unbuilt Categories Represent Problem-Solving Design with Duravit Products
Duravit USA has completed the sixth edition of its annual Designer Dream Bath Competition, selecting one winner and two honorable mentions for both the Built and Unbuilt categories. For the Built category, which honors a project completed featuring Duravit within the last five years, the winner is David Gonzalez-Blanco of Billy Blanco Designs, with honorable mentions given to firms White Arrow and Falken Reynolds. For the Unbuilt category, which tasks designers with reimagining their own bathrooms featuring the latest Duravit product introductions, the winner is Frevent Design, with honorable mentions given to OAD Interiors and AD-WO.
“This year’s winning designs encompass what the Duravit brand is about: clever design, combined with beautiful aesthetics,” explains Duravit USA President, Tim Schroeder. “It’s always inspiring to see how our winners, honorable mentions, and all entries use Duravit to solve their design problems and enhance their homes and projects.”
David Gonzalez-Blanco, of South Florida-based firm Billy Blanco Designs, used the Duravit Cape Cod collection as inspiration for his winning Built project. Designed by Philippe Starck, the Cape Cod collection perfectly accentuates the Ontario home’s bayfront master suite. The picnic table-inspired vanities are complemented by the soft curves of the freestanding bathtub an round washbasins, and Gonzalez-Blanco further played into the project’s setting with elegant aqua tile. As Built category winner, Gonzalez-Blanco will receive $5,000 in Duravit credit. Likewise, the honorable mentions by White Arrow and Falken Reynolds also showed the impact of Duravit; in both cases, with a small space that used Duravit to add an airy and modern aesthetic.
The Unbuilt category invited designers to redesign their own bathroom featuring Duravit’s new Brioso and XSquare collections, with the winner receiving $10,000 in Duravit product to make their dream bath a reality. The winning project by Frevent Design exudes a luxe simplicity, with the organic shapes of Duravit ceramics juxtaposed by the crisp geometry and modern wood of the furnishings. Honorable mentions OAD Interiors and AD-WO also used a creative combination of Duravit furniture and ceramic products to create serene, unique bathroom spaces.
Submissions were reviewed and winners were selected by a jury of leading designers, architects, and media, including Bori Kang, associate at Richard Meier & Partners, and Nicole Agnello, designer at Architecture Workshop PC.
