HBF Textiles is proud to launch Layered by Mark Grattan as their hero collection for 2025, marking the designer’s highly anticipated debut in textiles. The sumptuous new collection translates Grattan’s signature aesthetic and defiant nature into three distinctive patterns that embody the designer’s multifaceted creative identity. Comprising a richly dimensional checkered velvet, an elegant satin, and a bold zebra pattern, Layered represents the culmination of influences he has cultivated across two decades of design practice as well as his sophisticated approach to material dialogue and sensory experience.
“The concept reflects my approach to creative work—the many steps it takes from design to the finished product. Designing spaces and objects with depth, stacking elements, color, and incorporating repetition,” explains Grattan. “It also became a symbol of my character, with the pattern names alluding to my three creative personas: the creative (Creativo), the woodworker (Wright), and the rebellious dreamer (Decadent).”

This collection sits at the epicenter of HBF Textiles’ core strength, producing hospitality-driven textiles, packed with personality, at commercial-grade quality. “Working with Mark from conception to realization of Layered has been an exercise in dreaming,” says Casey Baxter, Vice President and General Manager for HBF + HBF Textiles. “The end result is three sublime characters that are different from anything else we offer and as deeply profound and ‘layered’ as the designer himself.”

The first design in the collection is Creativo, a lush, seductive checkered velvet alternating between cut and uncut surfaces to arrive at a tactile landscape that invites touch while captivating the eye. This pattern has a dynamic visual rhythm–reflecting Grattan’s signature style of repetition that he’s innately drawn to and finds comforting, a unique aesthetic he has developed since receiving his first design brief to mow his parent’s front lawn. Commanding attention while remaining sophisticated, this style embodies Grattan’s creative persona – bold, expressive, and meticulously crafted. Each of the eight colorways is named after materials that have been fundamental to Grattan’s creative process such as Chrome, Marble, Resin, and High Gloss Lacquer.

A refined satin textile, Wright pays homage to Grattan’s foundation as a woodworker and maker – representing the structured, disciplined, and patient craftsman. The gentle irregularities in the weave mimic the natural pore variations found in hand-finished wood, creating a surface that feels both sophisticated and authentic. Designed as a complementary solid to balance the other two strong patterns in the collection, Wright provides versatility while maintaining its luxurious character. Colorways bear names that celebrate the craft of woodworking—Sawdust, Dovetail, Chisel, and Burnish—each evoking Grattan’s experiences in the workshop where he built his foundation for creative expression and honed his material sensibilities apprenticing for his father. Wright balances practicality with elegance as a high-performing, bleach-cleanable solid with a luxe, matte sheen hand that elevates commercial or hospitality applications.

The pièce de résistance, Decadent is a bold zebra pattern that captures the rebel in Grattan and his multicultural influences in a celebration of sensory indulgence, worldly inspiration, and opting for the unexpected. Drawing from his extensive time in Mexico and Brazil, this pattern marries contrast with fluid, organic movement. A soft, sophisticated blend of bouclé and chenille creates a large-scale zebra-inspired pattern with rich textural depth, while occasional speckles celebrate the beauty of imperfection. Each colorway is named after experiences and objects that epitomize grandeur in Grattan’s personal lexicon—Caviar, Copacabana, and After Hours—reflecting his appreciation for life’s most exquisite pleasures. The pattern’s rhythmic repetition creates visual drama while maintaining sophistication, embodying the designer’s belief that true luxury lies in deeply personal expression.
Grattan’s first venture into textile design showcases his signature techniques and style of thoughtful repetition, graceful curves, experimental material combinations, and contrasting diverse mediums— self-described as a “protest against what designers typically choose.” Each pattern invites touch while captivating the eye and is the result of a deep and devoted collaboration. “The relationship with the HBF Textiles team is not surface level, it’s different,” he explains. “I was very involved during product development, learning a lot in the process and I think this is of the utmost importance. I’m so grateful for the intention and care, and it really shows in the end product. I’ve learned to trust myself.”
