Maharam: Introducing Bertjan Pot

Maharam’s new collaboration with Bertjan Pot invites the Dutch designer to explore his interest in material experimentation across a series of upholsteries and rugs. Pot is known for using everyday materials and processes to create intricate objects including lights, furniture, and textiles.

Pot’s textiles with Maharam employ humble, repetitive techniques to create patterns rooted in structure and emphasized by bold color.

Twist and Shake by Bertjan Pot

Drawing on utilitarian design principles including Shaker traditions of material and structural simplicity, woven upholsteries Twist and Shake enlist custom tricolor plied yarns that both strengthen the textile and create a complex and randomized moire.

Hustle and Floss by Bertjan Pot

Hustle extends the yarn-twisting method of Twist and Shake to a handwoven wool and organic cotton rug offered in bold color combinations. Pairing the moire pattern seen throughout the collection with an unexpected sense of proportion, Floss reimagines traditional hand-knotting techniques through exuberant texture and palette.
